Virginia Turner Family Ancestry

Because of DNA evidence, it now looks as if Terisha was descended from Turners already in Virginia.

There is no proof that Terisha's brother was Stephen. However, both appear in the same part of Virginia at the same time and named their son's, presumably, after one another. They show up on the same pages of the Amherst County official records. They could be cousins or no relation at all. Louise Patton Turner assumed they were brothers and compiled information on them. My verified information on Stephen and his descendants is sketchy at this point.1

However, the 1830 and 1840 census seem to indicate a birth year between 1780 and 1790????2,3

Adam and Polly Riley obtained a marriage bond on 13 October 1810 in Sumner County, Tennessee, with Frederick Miller as bondsman.4

In 1820, I previously had thought the Adam Turner Sr who had 77 acres on Station Camp Creek in Sumner County was this man, but I subsequently discovered that the Adam Turner Senior of 1820 was a man 80 to 90 years of age so he would be too old to have been Terisha's son.5

Addie E. Turner was born in December 1859, daughter of James Jones Turner and Adeline Harper, in Tennessee.1,2

Addie, 29, married George O. Cherry on 6 June 1889 in Davidson County, Tennessee.3

I believe the Georgie Cherry who was born c1893 and died of ? Colitis on May 28 1894 in Nashville, Davidson County, Tennessee was their son.4

Addie married William T. Lafferty on 4 December 1905 in Sumner County, Tennessee.5

I cannot find a death record for her as of 21 Jul 2021. I think she died before 1920 and I believe her husband married Lula Ophelia Pyburn with whom he was enumerated in 1930.

Adeline R. Turner was born circa 1810, daughter of Richard Turner and Sarah Ham, in Virginia.4

Adeline R. Turner and William G. Harlin obtained a marriage bond on 24 November 1830 in Amherst County, Virginia, with George H. Turner as security and Charles B. Palmore as witnesses.1

Richard Turner, father of the bride, gave consent to the marriage on 24 November 1830 at Amherst County, Virginia.1

Adeline R. Turner married William G. Harlin on 25 November 1830 in Amherst County, Virginia.
In a marriage notice in the Lynchburg Virginian: "Mr. William G. Harlin, of Buckingham, to Miss Adeline Turner, daughter of Richard Turner of Amherst County" by the Rev. Thomas Burge."5,3,1

On 20 February 1832, she is named Adeline with no mention of a married name of Harlin in her father's will of this date.6

On 20 June 1863, the western part of Virginia was admitted to the Union as a new state named West Virginia.

I found the name Adaline R Harlan listed on the 1890 census of surviving Union veterans and widows in Buckhannon District, Upshur County, West Virginia. However, I believe her husband would have been too old to have served and I could not find any Union service records for Harlan/Harlin men in West Virginia or Virginia. Her name is indented beneath that of Daniel R. Childers, Private, with whom she appears to be living.7

Albert Marion Turner was born circa 1859, son of Calvin Smith Turner and Amanda Ann Tucker, in Texas.2

Albert Marion Turner married Christine Peterson. I am not confident this is the right Albert Marion Turner because there could've been another man with the same name and year of birth!3,4

He must have died before 1896 when his wife remarried, but I can't find any death information for him as of 1 May 2021.
