On 4 July 1785, at the Court held for Amherst County, directly beneath her husband's name, there is a claim made by Mary Turner for 85 lbs. of bacon for the Amherst Militia when guarding prisoners on their march through this country, £3-4-9.8
On 7 May 1793, she is in her father's will of this date: Item I give and bequeath to my daughter Mary London three negroes named Bob, Sammy and Agg. with there increase to her and her heirs forever.9,1

On 3 October 1839, Mary Turner Rives writes her son, Robert, and reports that "Aunt Molly London's children went to" Tennessee.12
On 7 April 1840, Mary gave a deposition before Jesse Munday, Justice of the Peace for Amherst County, in which she swore "that she was 89 years old, that she has been living in said county for 67 or 68 years last past - that she became acquainted with Mrs. Jane Dillard (whose maiden name was Starke) about the month of April or May, in the year 1782 - at which time, she the said Jane Dillard was living in a state of matrimony with Capt. Mary Turner was born on 13 March 1771, daughter of Stephen Turner and Susannah Hamner. The month is torn away in the bible.1,3
Mary and William McGuffy Rives obtained a marriage bond on 5 January 1788 in Warren County, North Carolina, with Nicholas Bilbo as security.4,5,6,7
Stephen Turner, the father of the bride, and Thomas Rives, father of the groom, gave consent to the marriage on 5 January 1788 at Warren County, North Carolina.8
On 14 October 1799, she is named Mary Reves in her father's will of this date.2
On 3 October 1839, Mary Turner Rives has left an interesting account of these family relationships, which breathes the breath of life into names which otherwise might never have been more than names, in a letter written to her son Robert Rives:
"Warren County
North Carolina,
Oct. 3, 1839.
Dear Son:
I take this opportunity of writing you a few lines to let you know that I and family are well. Hoping this letter will find you and family in good health.
Your brothers and sisters are well. Mary Mabry (Mary Rives who m. James Mabry) has chills and fever. John Turner has the bilious (sic) fever and is very sick at this time. Our neighbors are well on this side of Nutbush Creek. The people on the other side are very sickly. Howel Clardy lies very low with the billious (sic) fever and is very dangerous. Polly Bosdens died about the 15th of September, and the Doctors said she died of the glands of the neck being swelled; she was confined to her bed more than three months, she died a devout christian (sic).
Rebecca, your mother's brother Jack Vaughan and the Edwards family were all well at Mrs. Bowdens' funeral.
We have fine crops in this county of every description, except potatoes and turnips. New corn will start form the stack at two dollars, tobacco at Petersburg is from $3. to $10., wheat one dollar, cotton below par, bacon 15 cents per pound.
You requested me to send you all your ages also your Father's and my age. Your Father was Born December 24, 1767. I was born March 13, 1771. We were married the 5th day of January, 1788. Stephen Rives was born the 10th. of November 1788. Thomas Rives was born the 4th. day of Nov. 1790. Nancy Mabry was born the 14th. of Oct. 1792. William Rives was born the 24th. of March, 1795. Sally Moss was born the 13th. of August, 1799. Polly Watkins was born the 1st. of Dec. 1801. Robert Rives was born the 16th. of Dec. 1803. James Rives was born the 13th. of Sept. 1807. Rebecca Southall was born the 27th. of Jan. 1810. Susan Cunningham was born August 8th. 1817.
My father was born and reared in Amherst County, Va., on the other side of James River. My father was named Stephen Turner, son of Old Terisha Turner of said County and State. My mother was named Susan Hamner in Albemarle County, Va., daughter of Wm. Hamner of said City and State. Robert, Uncle John Turner and family moved from Amherst to that State (Tennessee) and I heard of them in Wilson Co (Tennessee). Aunt Sallie Stovall and her family went there. Aunt Molly London's children went there. They moved out of Amherst near Lynchburg. Some of Uncle Henry Turner's children moved to that state also, but I do not know what County.
The sale of your father's property will be between the 15th. and 20th. of December. All the perishable property and five negroes, visible, Cely, Sims, Granderson, Hinton, and Henry, all of which you may call nearly men.
I desire to be remembered to Rebecca and the children, Stephen, Y. Moss, Len H. Johnson and Old Mrs. Collins.
So I conclude, remaining your loving mother until death.

Mary Turner was born circa 1815, daughter of Terisha Turner and Mary Turner, in Virginia. Her parentage is based on the marriage contract of 1842.1
On 14 December 1842, Edward Worthington of Nelson County, Mary Turner and William B. Turner were parties to a deed of trust with respect to Mary's personal property and her intended marriage to Edward. Mary Turner was possessed of a considerable personal estate consisting of one negro girl Amelia, and all her children, one bed and furniture household and kitchen furniture and a sorrel mare. It was agreed that William B. Turner would hold in trust this property for Mary's sole benefit until the marriage was solemnized after which Edward would have, receive, take and enjoy all the interests and profits of said property during the joint lives of Edward and Mary Worthington for the support and maintenance of themselves, family and children. If Mary died first, her husband would have the use in trust of the property for the benefit of himself during his life and for the support and maintenance of his children begotten on the body of Mary Turner and after his death to go in equal parts to their children. But, should Edward die leaving Mary then the said property was to be at her sold control and disposal. This trust agreement was signed by Mary Turner, Edward Wormington (sic) and W. B. Turner.
On 26 Dec 1842, Terisha Turner appeared in court in Pike County to exhibit this Deed of Trust and marriage contract which was proved by the oaths of two subscribing witnesses.
On 28 Jul 1845, on the motion of William B. Turner, trustee, this deed of Trust and marriage contract was ordered to be certified to the County of Pike in the state of Missouri at Nelson County, Virginia.3
Mary Turner married Edward Worthington in Nelson County, Virginia.1,3

On 16 October 1873, according to her letter to Lyman Draper of this date, Louisa B. Locke says her sister, Mary Ann Tinsley, was living in Texas on this date. Mary Ann was the daughter of James Turner, and granddaughter of John and Mildred Suddarth Turner.8
On 2 December 1873, Mary Ann Tinsley wrote a letter to Lyman S. Draper on this date in which she references her sister, Louisa B. Locke, and a deceased brother, John G. Turner who resided in Sumner County, Tennessee. She states her grandmother was Milley Suddarth who married John Turner in Albemarle County, Virginia and later moved to Sumner County. Mary thinks Milley died there in 1809 or 1810. Mary also mentions Milley's sister, Agnes Suddarth, who married Francis Weathered and moved to Sumner County. She states that her own father was James S. Turner and that his sister Elizabeth married Moses Tinsley. Mary then states she married Isaac T. Tinsley, son of Elizabeth and Moses Tinsley (making Isaac her first cousin). Finally, she mentions her cousin Sumpter Turner who lived in New Orleans.3
Mary Ann Tinsley died in May 1882.7
