     The Marriage Return was received by the court in Amherst County, Virginia, on 20 February 1851.³

     On 8 June 1851, she is named Mary E. Dillard in her father's will of this date.¹

     Mary Elizabeth Turner was born on 31 January 1838, daughter of Stephen H. Turner and Elizabeth (--?--), in Gallatin, Sumner County, Tennessee.^1,3

     Mary, 18, married Joseph Alexander Copeland, 30, son of John Copeland and Nancy C. McDowell, on 26 September 1856.⁴

     Mary Elizabeth Copeland died on 26 August 1895 at age 57³ and was buried in Hall Cemetery, Howe, Grayson County, Texas.³

     Mary Elizabeth Turner was born in June 1845, daughter of William Richard Turner and Permelia Hutcheson, in Virginia.^1,3
     She also is reported to have been born on 9 January 1849 in Amherst County, Virginia.²

     Mary Elizabeth Turner died of Pulmonary Tuberculosis on 11 December 1917 at age 72 in Amherst County, Virginia.^4,5

     Mary Ellen Turner was born circa 1844, daughter of Jefferson Daniel Turner and Mary Watts Cheatwood, in Virginia.⁴

     Mary Frances Turner was born on 13 November 1856, daughter of Samuel Hopkins Turner and Ann Marie Omohundro.^1,2

     Mary Frances, 19, married John Fletcher Lindsey, 29, on 29 February 1876 in Carroll County, Virginia.^1,3

     Mary Frances Lindsey died on 20 May 1928 at age 71 in Galax, Virginia,¹ and was buried in Gladeville United Methodist Church Cemetery, Galax, Virginia.¹

     Mary Frances Turner was born on 16 February 1905, daughter of Fayette Norvill Turner and Annie E. Layne, in Missouri.^1,3

     She married Jessie D. Thomas, but I cannot find a marriage record for them as of 23 May 2021.⁴

     Her usual residence was with her husband at San Angelo, Tom Green County, Texas.³

     Mary Frances Thomas died of Cancer of the Lung on 21 October 1967 at age 62 in M. D. Anderson Hospital, Houston, Harris County, Texas,³ and was buried in Fairmount Cemetery, San Angelo, Tom Green County, Texas.^3,5

     Mary Frances Turner was born on 7 June 1903, daughter of William Madison Turner and Ida Isabell New, in Wilson County, Tennessee.^2,1

     Mary Frances Turner died on 9 February 1988 at age 84 in Lebanon, Wilson County, Tennessee,¹ and was buried in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Lebanon, Wilson County, Tennessee.¹

     Mary Frances Turner's obituary names only her sister Kate Hearn of Lebanon and unnamed nieces and nephews as survivors.¹

     Mary H. Turner was born circa 1802, daughter of Richard Turner and Sarah Ham, in Virginia.³

     Mary and Jesse Wood obtained a marriage bond on 5 September 1831 in Amherst County, Virginia, with George H. Turner as security.^4,5
     The Marriage Return was received by the court in Amherst County, Virginia, on 5 September 1831.⁶

     On 20 February 1832, she is named Mary Wood in her father's will of this date.⁷

     I cannot find any marriage information on any of their children as of 4 Jun 2021.

     Mary J. Turner was born circa 1828, daughter of John F. Turner and Sarah A. Tryall, in Virginia.³

     On 29 July 1829, she is named in her grandfather, Samuel Turner's, will of this date as the daughter of John Turner. In the will, he names E. A. Cabell, Jr. and P. C. Cabell as trustees for Mary.¹

     Mary married Jesse W. Shaw on 19 December 1844 in Pike County, Missouri.⁴

     On 24 April 1886, Alexander Turner's will names his sisters, Mary J. Shaw, Ella Norton, Sallie Turner. He appointed his friend R. Flelark as his executor.²

     Mary J. Shaw died on 2 August 1893⁵ and was buried in Riverview Cemetery, Louisiana, Pike County, Missouri.⁵

     Mary J. Turner was born circa 1878, daughter of William Scott Turner and Eliza Jane Ragland, in Kentucky.¹

     Mary married John T. Fortner circa 1895. I cannot find a marriage record on Ancestry or FamilySearch as of 7 Feb 2021.²

     On 21 June 1939, William Adolphus Turner's obituary names his widow, Mrs. Lottie Gray Turner; a son Willliam Clifton Turner (associated with him in business), two daughters, Mrs. N. O. Bailey and Mrs. W. G. Ogle, both of Bordeaux; four brothers, C. D. Turner and D. L. Turner of Nashville; T. E. Turner of Lewisburg, Ky., L. O. Turner of Mount Vernon, Ill, and five sisters: Mrs. D. C. Paschal of Bowling Green, Ky., Mrs. J. T. Fortner of Saint Elmo, Ill., Mrs. F. A. Graham of Sullivan, Ill., Mrs. Everet Head of Russellville, Ky., and Mrs. R. T. Cheaney of Evansville, Ind.³

     On 12 December 1943, Carl Columbus Turner's obituary was published:

     "Uncle of Local Resident Dies in Nashville
     "Funeral services for Carl Columbus Turner, 57, Nashville, uncle of Mrs. Viola Paschal, this city, who died Tuesday at his home in Bordeaux, suburban Nashville, following a lengthy illness, were conducted at 10 o'clock Saturday morning from the Bordeaux Methodist church, with the Rev. J. W. Estes officiating. Burial was in the Mt. Olive Cemetery."

     "Mr. Turner, formerly manager of the Pennsylvania Hat and Tailoring Company, Nashville, was born in Butler County, Kentucky, moving to Nashville 25 years ago."

     "He was a Shriner and a member of the Bordeaux Methodist church. He attended Bowling Green Business University in 1908-1909."

     "Survivors include: his wife, Mrs. Ethel Riggle Turner; one son, Carl C. Turner, Jr., taking army flight training in South Dakota; five sisters, Mrs. Tom Fortner, Effington, Illinois; Mrs. Finis Graham, Sullivan, Illinois; Mrs. Viola Paschal, Bowling Green; Mrs. Grace Chaney and Mrs. Nellie Head, Russellville; three brothers, L. L. Turner, Mr. Vernon, Illinois; T. E. Turner, Lewisburg, Kentucky; D. L. Turner, Nashville; one nephew, C. R. Paschal, this city."⁴

     Mary Joe Turner was born on 22 September 1906, daughter of Joseph Andrew Turner and Addie Young, in Tennessee.^1,2

     Mary married Benjamin Franklin Wehrenberg. Whereas I can find a marriage record for their daughter Frances Louise Wehrenberg in Louisiana which names her parents as Mary Joe Turner and Ben F Wehrenberg, I cannot find a marriage record for this couple as of 23 May 2021.²

     Mary Joe Wehrenberg died on 10 November 1988 at age 82 in New Orleans, Orleans Parish, Louisiana,² and was buried on 13 November 1988 in McEwen Cemetery, McEwen, Humphreys County, Tennessee.²

     Mary Josephine Turner was born on 16 October 1910, daughter of Holland Alexander Turner and Annie Bealle Matthews, in Austin, Travis County, Texas.¹
     She was also known as Josephine Turner.²

     Mary Josephine and Arthur Pope Duggan Jr. obtained a marriage license on 28 August 1940 in Travis County, Texas.³

     Mary Josephine Turner, 29, married Arthur Pope Duggan Jr., 29, on 31 August 1940 in Travis County, Texas, with Chester L. Hutes, Rector of All Saints Chapel, Austin, officiating.³

     On 26 March 1982, Arthur Pope Duggan Jr.'s death notice reads:
     Duggan, Arthur P., Jr., 4159 Steck Ave., died today. Graveside services 2 p.m. today at Austin Memorial Park. Memorial contgributions requested. Survivors: wife, Josephine Turner Duggan of Austin; sons, Alex Duggan of Fort Worth, George Duggan of Santa Monica, Calif; daughter Sallie Strickland of Austin; sister, Mrs., David C. Gracy of Austin; five grandchildren."⁴

     Mary Josephine Duggan lived at 520 East 9th Street, Littlefield, Lamb County, Texas.

     Mary Josephine Duggan died on 27 March 2003 at age 92 in Littlefield, Lamb County, Texas,¹ and was buried in Austin Memorial Park Cemetery, Austin, Travis County, Texas.¹

She was a dedicated wife, a proud, loving mother and enjoyed being associated with the town of Littlefield which was founded by her husband's parents, Arthur Pope and Sarah Elisabeth Harral Duggan. She traveled widely with her husband. She was preceded in death by her husband on March 25, 1982, her sister, Barbara Turner Tucker of Arlington, Texas and her son-in-law, Paul Strickland of Austin. The family expresses appreciation for the attention and love shown by her friends and for the excellent care she has received.      Mary Knight Turner was born circa 1865, daughter of Thomas Turner and Ann Elizabeth Knight, in Missouri.²

     On 20 February 1869, Ann E. Turner, administratrix of the Estate of Thomas Turner deceased, swore to the best of her knowledge that she (his widow), Charles Turner, Lena Lee Turner, Etta Bell Turner and Mary Knight Turner his children, all residents of Pike County are the only heirs of Thomas Turner deceased who did not leave a will.¹

     I am unable to find anything further (marriage, census) about her as of 19 Jan 2021.

     Mary Lee Turner was born circa 1867, daughter of Thomas Sumpter Turner and Laura Virginia Whitehead, in Virginia.¹
     She also is reported to have been born circa 1872 in Louisiana. This date is preposterous given she was enumerated in 1870.³
     She was also known as Marie Lee.⁴

     Mary Lee married Eugene Samuel, 38, on 22 August 1899 in Richmond, (Independent City), Virginia.⁵

     Estelle T. Hatchett's obituary names her sisters: Mrs. Marie Lee Samuel, of Richmond; Mrs. Josie Traylor, of Portsmouth; Mrs. Adelle Brinkley, of Kinston, and Mrs. Nellie Wilheit, of Augusta, Georgia.⁴

     Mary Lee Samuel died in March 1942⁶ and was buried in Hollywood Cemetery, Richmond, (Independent City), Virginia.⁶

     Mary M. Turner was born circa December 1859, daughter of John Hall Turner and Margarette Sample, in Tennessee.¹

     Because I cannot find her parents in the 1870 census, I don't know what happened to this daughter.

     Mary Margaret Turner was born on 16 September 1906, daughter of Edward Milner Turner and Mary Pierce Duncan, in Laurel Fork, Carroll County, Virginia.³

     Mary Margaret, 38, married Ottis Barrow Ritchie, 49, on 29 December 1944 in Barium Springs, Iredell County, North Carolina, with Rev. Thomas C. Cook officiating. Ottis was "of Kannapolis" (in Cabarrus and Rowan Counties) and Mary Margaret "of Barium Springs."⁵

     Mary Margaret Ritchie, 50, married Mack Abe Bondurant, 55, son of Joseph Henry Bondurant and Mary Louise Pedigo, on 1 December 1956 in Laurel Fork, Carroll County, Virginia, with G. C. Bowman, Minister of the Baptist Church, officiating.

     Mary Margaret was his second wife, his first wife having died in 1956. Mary was also a widow, her husband having died in 1949

     This marriage is not listed in the Edward Milner Turner family bible.^4,6

     On 1 August 1984, Dott Turner Marshall's obituary is quite lengthy but explains she attended Radford College in Virginia, taught school several years, and was Dietician at the Presbyterian Home for Children in Barium Springs, North Carlina. She is survived by her two daughters: Mrs. Marguerite M. Shannon of Charlotte and Mrs. Marie M. Thomasson of Huntersville, North Carolina; grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well as four brothers: Howard Turner of Hillsville, Va., Baxter Turner of Chicago, Il., Carl Turner of Meadows of Dan, VA and E. M. Turner of Laurel Fork, Va., and one sister, Mrs. Mary Bondurant of Laurel Fork, Va.⁷

     Mary Margaret Bondurant died on 28 October 2001 at age 95 in Virginia,⁶ and was buried in Turner-Duncan Cemetery, Laurel Fork, Carroll County, Virginia.
     "Mary T. Bondurant, 95, of Laurel Fork, passed away Sunday, Oct. 28, 2001. Born at Laurel Fork on Sept. 16, 1906, she was the daughter of the late E.M.Turner and Maggie Duncan Turner. She was preceded in death by two husbands, Otis Ritchie and Mack Boundurant as well as a sister, Dott Turner Marshall and seven brothers, James G. Turner, Robert H. Turner, Baxter K. Turner, John P. Turner, Samuel C. Turner, Carl D. Turner and Edward M. Turner, Jr. A 1925 graduate of Beechwood High School, Heidelberg, KY, she was for many years associated with the Presbyterian Orphanage, Barium Springs, NC as a house mother. During these years, she personally cared for her mother and father and assisted other family members. By her hard work and planning, she ensured that her parent's farm at Laurel Fork remained intact. Her charitable works and church activities were many and touched countless lives. She is survived by eight nieces and eight nephews and the many children who were at the time in her excellent and loving care. I lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to either the Stone Mountain Baptist Church or the Turner-Duncan Cemetery Fund, c/o Edward M. Turner, III, P. O. Box 393, Hillsville, VA 24343. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2001, at 11 a.m. at the Stone Mountain Baptist Church with Rev. Jeff Woods and Rev. Paul Horne officiating. Burial will be in the Turner-Duncan Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:30-8 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel, Hillsville, VA is in charge of arrangements."⁶

     Mary Massie Turner was born on 29 May 1888, daughter of William Henry Turner and Ida Massie Smith, in Albemarle County, Virginia.^1,3

     She married James Garrett White (1889-1945.)³

     Mary Massie White died on 3 July 1958 at age 70 in North Garden, Albemarle County, Virginia,³ and was buried in Anchorage Cemetery, North Garden, Albemarle County, Virginia.³

     Mary Mildred Turner was born on 15 October 1829, daughter of William Suddarth Turner and Elizabeth Pearl Smith.³

     Mary, 14, married Asa Jarmon Lee Sowell, 22, son of John Sowell and Rachel Carpenter, on 29 August 1844. They had five children.⁴

     Mary Mildred Sowell died on 28 April 1873 at age 43³ and was buried in San Geronimo Cemetery, Seguin, Guadalupe County, Texas.³

     Mary P. Turner was born in July 1880, daughter of Stephen Leonidas Turner and Mary Elizabeth Bryan, in Tennessee.¹

     In 1887, she moved to California with her mother and siblings at California.³

     Mary R. Turner was born circa 1874, daughter of Lawson C. Turner and Mary P. Wayland, in Virginia.¹

     Mary Rachel Turner was born on 28 October 1812, daughter of Henry Turner and Isabella Hopkins, in Fluvanna County, Virginia.^3,1
     She was also known as Mary.²

     Mary Rachel, 37, married William Hopkins, 65, son of John Hopkins and Mary Martin, on 14 November 1849 in Albemarle County, Virginia.
     He was a widower with ten children and much older than his wife as well as being Rachel's cousin (grandson of Dr. Arthur Hopkins.)^4,5

     Mrs. Mary Rachel (Turner) Hopkins wrote Mrs. Margaret Isabella Hopkins Campbell, her niece, who is now at the advanced age of 87 and living in St. Louis, Missouri, that "Dr. Arthur Hopkins graduated from the 'School of Medicine and Surgery' in London and came to Virginia with Dr. William Cabell about 1720, settled in Goochland County and took up thousands of acres of land. He married here and he and his wife purchased their clothing from England."⁶

     Mary Rachel Hopkins died on 12 August 1894 at age 81 in Fluvanna County, Virginia,^2,7 and was buried in Christ Episcopal Church Cemetery, Keene, Albemarle County, Virginia.⁸

     Mary S. Turner was born in March 1880, daughter of James B. Turner and Mary S. Harris, in Virginia.¹

     I can find nothing further about her as of 22 Apr 2021.

     Mary Wilie Turner was born on 1 July 1860, daughter of Edward C. Turner and Caroline Thursa Hopkins, in Fluvanna County, Virginia.³
     She also is reported to have been born circa 1864 in Virginia¹ and in February 1866 in Virginia.⁶

     Mary married Henry Lee Mize. I cannot find a marriage record as of 26 May 2021.⁷

     Mary married Charles Albert Hudson circa 1898. I cannot find a marriage record as of 26 May 2021.^4,6

     Mary Wilie Turner died following an operation for Cancer of Caecum on 17 July 1923 at age 63 in Richmond, Henrico County, Virginia.⁴

     Massie Ligon Turner was born on 18 October 1895, son of Beverly William Turner and Mollie Dawson Josephine Roberts, in Faber, Nelson County, Virginia.^1,4,3
     He also is reported to have been born in November 1896 in Virginia.⁵

     Massie registered for the draft on 5 June 1914 at Faber, Nelson County, Virginia. He was 21 years of age, single and working as a construction ? for American Telephone and Telegraph Company. He is described as being 6' 4 1/4", with a slender build, brown eyes and auburn hair.

     Due to a need for men to serve during World War I, the United States instituted a draft. Obviously, not everyone who was registered for the draft was drafted or served in the military.

     The first registration was for men between the ages of 21 and 31 (men born between 5 Jun 1886 and 5 Jun 1896), meaning he had to register.³

     On 22 May 1918, he sailed from Hoboken, New Jersey on the Leviathan as a First Sergeant, Cavalry Headquarters Troop, 80th Division for service during World War I.⁶

     Massie married Mildred Daisy Fain circa 1924. I cannot find a marriage record as of 26 May 20221.^4,7

     Prior to his death, he had been a Construction Engineer.⁴

     Massie Ligon Turner died on 19 November 1937 at age 42 in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois,⁴ and was buried in Marietta City Cemetery, Marietta, Cobb County, Georgia.²

     Mathew D. Turner was born on 27 June 1812, son of Henley Turner and Elizabeth Duke. The Susannah Hamner Turner Bible says "Mathew D. turner son of Henley Turner and Elizabeth His wife was born on Sunday, the 27th day of June in the year of our Lord 18??(unreadable)." I suspect the year of birth was c1812 and am so entering it.²

     On 21 October 1829, he is named in his father's will of this date.⁴

     In October 1833, I believe this is the Matthew Turner who purchased 6 items from Bullock Store at Warren County, North Carolina.⁶

     In February 1834, the Court, ordered an audit of the guardian accounts of Richard Davis as guardian of the heirs of Henley Turner, deceased. The Guardian Account was filed in May Court. Accounts were ordered settled with Benjamin Norwood, administrator with the will annexed in Aug Court, during which the account was current with the administrator. A share of Negroes was allotted to Matthew Turner, son of the deceased in Nov Court. A share of the Negroes was allotted to Mark C. Turner, son of the deceased in Feb Court 1835. The May Court ordered an audit of the guardian accounts which was filed in Aug Court. Richard Davis renewed his guardian bond for the orphans, James, Mark C., Susan, Henly (I think this should be Henry) and James (?) Turner on 23 Feb Court 1836 (page 205, image 119). Shares of the Negroes were allotted to Mark C. Turner and Jane Yarborough formerly Jane Turner in Nov Court 1836. The Court again ordered an audit of the guardian accounts in Feb Court 1837. in Warren County, North Carolina.^7,8

     On 2 January 1835, pursuant to an order of the Court at Warren County, North Carolina, an allotment is set apart for Mathew Turner of negroes: Edmund and Bob after recurring thirty-five dollars & forty one cents, being his proportion of the negroes belonging to the estate of Henley Turner.⁹

     In February 1835, Henley Turner's land division was filed with the Court in Warren County, North Carolina. The division made on 26 Dec 1834 alloted land to his heirs: Henry Turner; Stephen H. Turner; James M. Turner; Susan Turner; Martha Jane; Mark C. Turner; Mathew D. Turner; all of whom were his siblings.¹⁰

     The following notes may refer to this Mathew D. Turner, son of Henley and Elizabeth Turner.

     A Matthew Turner obtained a marriage bond with Nancy Dean on 11 Dec 1837 in Franklin County, North Carolina with Parker Leonard as bondsman and S. Patterson as witness. This man matches with the one found in Georgia.¹¹

     In the 1850 census, a Matthew Turner is listed as 36 years of age and born in North Carolina and enumerated in Caseys District, DeKalb County, Georgia. Listed with him is Nancy, age 36; John, age 11; Wm. J., age 9; James M., age 7; Mark, age 6 (possibly the name of his brother); George, age 5; Elizabeth, age 3; and Robert, age 0. This appears to be the man who died in 1886.¹²

     The same man was enumerated in Forsyth County, Georgia, as 46 years of age with a probable wife, Nancy, age 46; John H., age 20; Josephus W., age 18; James M., age 16; Mark, age 15; Geo M. D., age 14; Elizabeth D., age 12; Robet D., age 10; Mary, age 7; Saml C., age 6 and Scott, age 3.¹³

     His Find a Grave memorial page calls him Mathew D Turner, born 27 Jun 1813, died 9 Jan 1886 and buried in Maxwell Cemetery, Alpharetta, Fulton County, Georgia. He is listed with a spouse of Nancy C Turner (1813-1889) and their children. I do not know if this is the Mathew D. Turner, son of Henley and Elizabeth Turner.¹⁴

     Mathew Reynolds Turner was born on 5 December 1884, son of John Calhoun Turner and Martha Lee Givens, in Paynesville, Pike County, Missouri.¹
     He was also known as Reynolds.²

     On 20 March 1896, Martha Lee Turner, in her will, names her sons: M. Reynolds Turner, Harry Turner and Reynolds Turner (?); and daughters: Kate Turner Smith, Mattie, Blanch and Ruby. She also names her "feeble-minded" daughter, Lillian B. Turner, with daughter Kate as her trustee. She appointed her son-in-law L. E. Mayhall as executor.³

     Reynolds, 30, married Louise Olin on 13 November 1915 in Toole County, Montana. Her mother gave consent to their marriage.⁴

     Mathew Reynolds Turner died on 1 August 1951 at age 66 in Shelby, Toole County, Montana,¹ and was buried in Mountain View Cemetery, Shelby, Toole County, Montana.⁵

     Matilda Turner was born circa 1847, daughter of William R. Turner and Martha Ann Allen, in Bexar County, Texas.¹

     Matilda married George W. Davlin circa 1870. I cannot find a marriage record as of 27 May 2021.²

     Matthew James Turner was born on 20 April 1832, son of Thomas Turner and Penelope S. Cartwright, in Tennessee.^1,2

     Matthew and Martha Eliza Major obtained a marriage license on 22 December 1857 in Wilson County, Tennessee.³

     He performed his Military Service by enlisting as a Private in Company F, 55th Tennessee Infantry (McKoin's) on 20 Dec 1861 and mustering in for duty on 10 Jan 1862.⁴

     Matthew James Turner died on 29 January 1910 at age 77² and was buried in Turner Cemetery, Linwood, Wilson County, Tennessee.²
