William Adolphus Turner was born on 6 April 1881, son of William Scott Turner and Eliza Jane Ragland, in Morgantown, Butler County, Kentucky.2,3
He was also known as Dolph.4

William married Lottie Gray circa 1902. I cannot find a marriage record for them as of 11 Jul 2021.2,5

William registered for the draft on 12 September 1918 at Sullivan, Moultrie County, Illinois. He was 37 years of age, a farmer and married to Lotta Bell Turner. He is described as being of medium height, medium buildl with black eyes and hair.

Due to a need for men to serve during World War I, the United States instituted a draft. Obviously, not everyone who was registered for the draft was drafted or served in the military.

With no end in sight for the end of World War I, a third and final registration law was instituted which now included all men between the ages of 18 and 45 which added younger men that the previous registrations laws and an older group of men born between 1873 and 1900, meaning he had to register.6

Prior to his death, he was a Filling Station Operator. He had operated an automobile service station in Bordeaux for seventeen years at the time of his death.2,7

William Adolphus Turner died suddenly of a Coronary Thromboisis 20 June 1939 at age 58 in Bordeaux, Davidson County, Tennessee,2 and was buried in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Nashville, Davidson County, Tennessee.8

On 21 June 1939, William Adolphus Turner's obituary names his widow, Mrs. Lottie Gray Turner; a son Willliam Clifton Turner (associated with him in business), two daughters, Mrs. N. O. Bailey and Mrs. W. G. Ogle, both of Bordeaux; four brothers, C. D. Turner and D. L. Turner of Nashville; T. E. Turner of Lewisburg, Ky., L. O. Turner of Mount Vernon, Ill, and five sisters: Mrs. D. C. Paschal of Bowling Green, Ky., Mrs. J. T. Fortner of Saint Elmo, Ill., Mrs. F. A. Graham of Sullivan, Ill., Mrs. Everet Head of Russellville, Ky., and Mrs. R. T. Cheaney of Evansville, Ind.7

William Andrew Turner was born on 16 August 1861, son of Robert Thompson Turner and Catherine H. Box, in Tennessee.2,1

On 30 August 1879, J. H. Turner, guardian for W. A. Turner, filed a report on this date, signing his name as Henry Turner at Humphreys County, Tennessee. No mention is made that he is a minor heir and his father is still living.3

William, 33, married Mary Ellen Turner, 34, on 11 December 1894 in Humphreys County, Tennessee.4

I have double-checked the marriage record for Mary Ellen and William Andrew Turner and it is in 1894. Her two sons, William Bruck and Horace Leslie Turner, according to their death records are the sons of William Andrew and not of Robert Moses Turner.

William Andrew Turner died on 4 November 1929 at age 681 and was buried in Maplewood Cemetery, Paris, Henry County, Tennessee.1

William B. Turner was born circa 1814, son of Terisha Turner and Mary Turner, in Nelson County, Virginia.2

William and Louisa A. R. Gibson obtained a marriage bond on 3 December 1838 in Amherst County, Virginia, with William B. Gilbert as security and S. W. Staples and E. B. Gilbert as witnesses.3

On 14 December 1842, Edward Worthington of Nelson County, Mary Turner and William B. Turner were parties to a deed of trust with respect to Mary's personal property and her intended marriage to Edward. Mary Turner was possessed of a considerable personal estate consisting of one negro girl Amelia, and all her children, one bed and furniture household and kitchen furniture and a sorrel mare. It was agreed that William B. Turner would hold in trust this property for Mary's sole benefit until the marriage was solemnized after which Edward would have, receive, take and enjoy all the interests and profits of said property during the joint lives of Edward and Mary Worthington for the support and maintenance of themselves, family and children. If Mary died first, her husband would have the use in trust of the property for the benefit of himself during his life and for the support and maintenance of his children begotten on the body of Mary Turner and after his death to go in equal parts to their children. But, should Edward die leaving Mary then the said property was to be at her sold control and disposal. This trust agreement was signed by Mary Turner, Edward Wormington (sic) and W. B. Turner.

On 26 Dec 1842, Terisha Turner appeared in court in Pike County to exhibit this Deed of Trust and marriage contract which was proved by the oaths of two subscribing witnesses.

On 28 Jul 1845, on the motion of William B. Turner, trustee, this deed of Trust and marriage contract was ordered to be certified to the County of Pike in the state of Missouri in Nelson County, Virginia.4

On 5 June 1871, could he have had a son, John Turner who took out a marriage license on 5 Jun 1871 with Amanda H? (possibly Hullard), daughter of Jas. & ? Hussard (?) in Amherst County? John's father's name is hard to read but looks like Wm. Berring Turner, but his wife was Sally. Wm Cothell officiated (if I've got his surname correct) at Amherst County, Virginia.5

I cannot find anything further about William or Louisa (Laura) as of 13 Jul 2021.

William Desha Turner was born on 22 January 1887, son of William N. Turner and Clara Amelia Britton, in Tennessee.2,3

     In 1909, he married Hope D. (--?--) (1888-1960.)4

On 20 September 1915, William N. Turner's obituary states he died at home, four miles from Bethpage, was the son of the late John W. Turner who died two years ago. He was married to Miss Clara Britton in 1881 and had four children of whom three survive: Misses Bettie and Avie Turner and Mr. Desha Turner. He was also survived by three brothers and two sisters: Mrs. Florence Ray of Oklahoma, Miss Ella Turner of Bethpage, John Wheeler, Geo. N. and Desha Turner of Pawnee, Oklahoma.5

William registered for the draft on 5 June 1917 at Sumner County, Tennessee. He was 30 years of age, married with two children and living in Castalian Springs where he was a farmer. He is described as of medium height, stout build with brown eyes and brown hair.

Due to a need for men to serve during World War I, the United States instituted a draft. Obviously, not everyone who was registered for the draft was drafted or served in the military.

The first registration was for men between the ages of 21 and 31 (men born between 5 Jun 1886 and 5 Jun 1896), meaning he had to register.6

William Desha Turner died on 7 April 1976 at age 89 in Goodlettsville, Davidson County, Tennessee,4 and was buried in Bethpage Cemetery, Bethpage, Sumner County, Tennessee.4

On 8 April 1976, William Desha Turner's obituary states that he was survived by one son, William Desha Jr., of Goodlettsville and one daughter, Mrs. Robert Bertrand, as well as one sister, Miss Avie Turner of Casillian Springs; also grandchildren.7

William Festus Turner was born on 27 February 1876, son of Andrew Jackson Turner and Eudora Clementine McCauley, in Humphreys County, Tennessee.1,3,4

In 1899, he graduated from McEwen Normal College where he pursued the scientific course. He then taught for six years in the schools of Humphreys and Houston counties.5

In 1903, he graduated from the College of Law at Cumberland University and was admitted to the bar of the state of Tennessee.5

In 1907, he began his practice of law in Waverly, Humphreys County, Tennessee.5

William and Lulu M. Carnell obtained a marriage license on 31 December 1908 in Humphreys County, Tennessee.6

William Festus Turner, 32, married Lulu M. Carnell, 31, on 1 January 1909 in Humphreys County, Tennessee.7,8

By 1913, they had two daughters: Margaret Nell and Mary Lula.5

William registered for the draft on 12 September 1918 at Waverly, Humphreys County, Tennessee. He was 42 years of age, a lawyer, and married. He is described as being tall, with a slender build, brown eyes and Dark, part bald hair.

Due to a need for men to serve during World War I, the United States instituted a draft. Obviously, not everyone who was registered for the draft was drafted or served in the military.

With no end in sight for the end of World War I, a third and final registration law was instituted which now included all men between the ages of 18 and 45 which added younger men that the previous registrations laws and an older group of men born between 1873 and 1900, meaning he had to register.4

On 2 November 1923, Andrew J. Turner's obituary lists his survivors as: "his wife, Dora and the following children: Dr. W. G. Turner of Arkansas City, Ark; W. F. Turner, A. E. Turner, Ira D. Turner, Mrs. Wilson Parker and Mrs. Ruby Vaden, all of Waverly, Tenn; Mrs. J. R. Sheldon of Pampico, Ill., and Mrs. W. A. Doty of Birmingham, Ala; also one sister, Mrs. Martha Johnson of Big Richland, who is 91 years old.

He was a lifelong member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, having served for over 40 years as elder. He spent some time in the Confederate army, serving most of the war."9

William Festus Turner died on 31 October 1949 at age 73 in Hattiesburg, Forrest County, Mississippi,2 and was buried in Oaklawn Cemetery, Hattiesburg, Forrest County, Mississippi.2

On 1 November 1949, William F. Turner's obituary states he was a retired attorney and resident of Tuscaloosa, Alabama but died in the home of his daughter, Mrs. Van C. Temple after a lengthy illness.10

William Franklin Turner was born on 7 January 1875 in Tyler, Smith County, Texas,5,6 and was baptized by Reverend R. S. Finley.      William Franklin Turner was born on 11 January 1875, son of Rev. Stephen Williamson Turner and Dora Anna Shuford.2
He was also known as Willie F.5

William and Eula Leta Swinburne obtained a marriage license on 10 April 1897 in Smith County, Texas.7,8

William Franklin Turner, 22 years, 4 months and 20 days, married Eula Leta Swinburne, 22 years, 2 months and 2 days, daughter of Alvin Curtis Swinburn and Nancy Elizabeth Gilbert, on 27 May 1897 at Smith County, Texas, with C. R. Wright, Methodist Minister, officiating.9,10,8

Leslie Turner stated that his father met his mother at Tolbert, Wilbarger County, Texas, a town near Vernon that no longer really exists. The town's original name was Wheatland, but because there already was another Texas town with that name, its name was changed to Tolbert before he was six years old.

He further said that his grandfather, Stephen W. Turner, had been the minister (the implication was that he was the original minister) of a church there. This may have been the first Methodist church in Wilbarger County. At that time Tolbert had a railroad station, church, school and several houses. At the time, the Swinburns farmed about 3 miles outside of Tolbert and, later, Alva Swinburn was a builder in Vernon.

In 1909, according to his son, Leslie Turner, he moved his family to Wichita Falls where, partly due to the oil boom, he had an abstract office that employed 20 secretaries.

However, this does not match the news story regarding his death which stated he was the manager of an abstract office, not the owner.

William registered for the draft on 12 September 1918 at Wichita County, Texas. He was 43 years of age and an abstractor employed by himself. He listed Eula L Turner was his nearest relative. He is described as being of medium height, slender build with blue eyes and brown hair.

Due to a need for men to serve during World War I, the United States instituted a draft. Obviously, not everyone who was registered for the draft was drafted or served in the military.

With no end in sight for the end of World War I, a third and final registration law was instituted which now included all men between the ages of 18 and 45 which added younger men that the previous registrations laws and an older group of men born between 1873 and 1900, meaning he had to register.2

William Franklin Turner left a will dated on 21 February 1920 in Wichita County, Texas. The date the will was written was sworn to in Court by W. R. Hyer, one of the witnesses.11,12

He was Manager, Guarantee Title Abstract Company

Leslie Turner stated that his father was a Realtor, as well as having an abstract office in Vernon near the Swinburns.13

Prior to William Franklin's death (based on his death certificate), the family was living at 200 East 8th St., Wichita Falls, Wichita County, Texas. [I wonder about this giving that I always knew them as living at 1610 Twelfth St., but perhaps they'd moved and kept that house as a rental. After his death his wife may have had to return to the earlier house.]5

William Franklin Turner died of acute perionitis, with the secondary cause the performation of his sigmoid colon during removal of right kidney cysts in his kidney (certified by an autopsy) on 12 March 1920 at age 45 in Baptist Sanitarium, Dallas, Dallas County, Texas,13,5,6 and was buried on 12 March 1920 in Riverside Cemetery, Wichita Falls, Wichita County, Texas.
I personally visited and photographed his burial location in the family plot where later his wife, two daughters and their husbands were also buried.6,5

Elisabeth Turner (his daughter) told me he died of peritonitis following a gall bladder operation. Elisabeth told me that she was only three when he died. In fact, she was 5 years of age. I was always told he died from complications following an emergency appendectomy.

In the brief news story of his sudden, unexpected death, it states that funeral arrangements will be announced later.13 After a careful search of later newspapers on microfilm at the Wichita Falls Public Library (on July 6, 2004), I was unable to find an true obituary.

Leslie Turner stated to me that his father's death was so unexpected that his widow was persuaded to have an autopsy performed. Apparently, during the operation a kink was formed in his intestine, causing the infection that led to his sudden death.

His estate was probated on 22 June 1920 in Wichita County, Texas. Although there isn't a date stating when this will was signed, the abstract says it was probated on this date. His wife, Mrs. Eula L. Turner, was named Executrix. The legatees were his unnamed children.

It was on the 8th of October that Eula came into court to be heard on the probate of this will.14,15,16

William Franklin Turner's estate was inventoried and appraised by the Court on 21 October 1920 at Wichita County, Texas, The total value (by my calculations) was $37,999.50 (worth $437,098.18 in 2013 dollars).17

On 9 December 1920, an Affidavit of Heirship was filed in court at Wichita County, Texas.

William Henry Turner was born on 17 April 1850, son of Samuel Hopkins Turner and Ann Marie Omohundro, in Amherst County, Virginia.1,2

William, 29, married Harriet Louisa Hylton, daughter of William E. Lewis and Saluda D. Williamson, on 3 November 1879 in Carroll County, Virginia. She was a widow.4,3,5

On 17 September 1887, W. H. Turner signed a bond in which he promised to pay to S. H. Turner fifty dollars without interest on or before 1 Sep 1889 for a tract of land in Carroll County known as Turners Store.6

On 21 September 1887, Samuel sold 75 acres in the Stone Mountain Creek area to his son Wiliam H. Turner and his wife, Henrietta Louise Turner. This land sale ultimately turned into a Chancery Court lawsuit. in Laurel Fork, Carroll County, Virginia.7,8

He appears to have been living in Kentucky by 1890, based on the Chancery Court papers delineating Ann M. Turner's (widow of his brother, Samuel Hopkins Turner) lawsuit against him for payment of monies owed his brother for a land purchase.9

On 12 December 1890, William Turner was cited for non-payment of $35.25; protest fee $2.50 for a total of $37.29. Additional charges we made on 28 Jan 1893 by Samuel Steptoe Turner acting in the interest of his mother, Ann Marie. A check from Turner & Claiborne Bros. for $35.25 was refused for lack of funds.10

On 22 September 1893, Ann Marie's attorney explained that the amount due the plaintiff is just and unpaid with a total amount of about $200 which the plaintiff ought to recover from the defendant who is not a resident of the Commonwealth, but who has estate in the Commonwealth.11

On 25 September 1893, the Grayson Gazette began publishing a notice about the lawsuit against W. H. Turner once a week for four successive weeks commencing 27 Sep 1893 and ending 18th day of Oct, 1893.12

On 1 October 1893, William Henry Turner was ordered to appear at the clerk's Office of the Carroll County, Virginia Circuit Court to answer a bill in chancery against him by A. M. Turner, Executrix of S. H. Turner deceased. The Sheriff was ordered to attach any estate of the defendant real or person in Carroll County to answer the future order of the Court.13

On 27 November 1897, the pending lawsuit was vacated in Carroll County, Virginia.14

On 21 January 1898, Anne Marie Turner, as executor of her husband's estate, filed suit against her son over non-payment of three bonds, each in the amount of $50, over land sold him in 1887. The first bond was due and payable on 1 Sep 1889 and the other two on 1 Sep 1890. Although remaining unpaid, the the first is subject to a credit of $9.00 as of 1 Apr 1891 and $12.72 as of 1 Jan 1893. In addition, her son owed $35.25 in interest paid out of the assets of S H Turner for the use of W. H. turner over a check drawn by Turner & Claiborne in favor of N. S. Moore which is also overdue.

She further explained that W. H. Turner was not a resident of the Commonwealth of Virginia but did own property, namely the property in question of about 75 acres on the waters of Stone Mountain Creek in Carroll County.15

William Henry Turner died on 14 September 1922 at age 72 in Carroll County,2 and was buried in Turner-Duncan Cemetery, Laurel Fork, Carroll County, Virginia.2

William M. Turner was born circa 1837, son of John E. Turner and Rachal Garrett, in Tennessee.1

There were too many marriages for William Turners in Sumner County, Tennessee, but most were dated from 1872-1879 which might be a bit late for him. I did find a record for a Wm C. Turner for an 1862 marriage in Sumner County, but I don't see how this could be correct.
