Further research found under John Twigden proves her descent. Amphillis descended through the families of Twigden and Dyckons, from the Thorntons, of Newnham and Brockhall, the Wilmers of Warwickshire, and even the Spencers of Badby, Northamptonshire. These Spencers were of the same stock of the Spencers of Althorpe, who were thus kinsmen of both herself and her husband.3
Amphillis Twigden was born bet 1601-1602, daughter of John Twigden , of Little Creaton, Northamptonshire and Anne Dickens, in Essex, England.1 Amphillis Twigden was baptized on 2 February 1602 at Spratton, Northamptonshire, England.2,4,5

Amphillis married Rev. Lawrence Washington, son of Lawrence Washington , of Sulgrave and Wicken Northampton and Margaret Butler, in December 1633. She was the daughter and co-heiress of her father. "At the time of her marriage she resided in Tring with her mother and stepfather, Andrew Knowling."6

On 18 June 1635, Andrew Knowling's will of this date names a son-in-law, William Roades, and three daughters-in-law (probably step-daughters): Elizabeth Fitzherbert, Susan Billing, deceased, and Amphillis Washington.

Andrew Knowling left his freehold lands in Tring to Lawrence Washington, son of Amphillis. He also named John, William, Elizabeth, Margaret, and Martha, five other children of hers and appointed John Dagnall of Gove, in the parish of Tring, yeoman, his overeseer.

The parish register of Tring reveals that the father of these children was Mr. Lawrence Washington. University records reveal that there was only one Mr. Lawrence Washington, Master of Arts, alive in England and he was the Fellow of Brasenose College, Oxford.7

"From surviving writings she emerges as a strong-willed woman who 'was clearly of sterner stuff than her husband.' Separated from her ostracized husband in later years, she and her childeren resided with her stepfather at Tring, Hertfordshire.6

Amphillis Washington is also reported to have died on 9 January 1655 in Tring Parish, Hertfordshire,4 and was buried on 19 January 1654/55 at St Peter & St Paul's Churchyard, Tring, Dacorum Borough.8,9,10

On 8 February 1655/56, "the administration of her estate was assigned to her oldest son, John."11

She is also reported to have died circa 1654 at England.1

Lumaga Vaughn was born between 1794 and 1800. If she was, indeed, the woman in the 1820 census, she was between the ages of 26 and 44 then which would make her born between 1776 and 1794. Given that her husband was between 16 and 26, I seriously doubt she was considerably older than he. My best guess is a year of birth c1800.2
