     Gladys Leona Wells was born in 1897, daughter of William Lawson Wells and Sarah Frances Murphy, in Oregon.3,4

     Gladys married Emil Joh Helseth, 25, on 16 September 1920 at the home of the bride's parents in Halsey, Polk County, Oregon.
     The wedding announcement states Emil was a student at the (Eugene) Bible University in his last year and plans on entering the ministry. Gladys was attending the University of Oregon and taking special work in the Bible University.5

     Former Polk County Judge, Sheriff Dies
     William Lawson Wells, 90, native of Oregon, died Tuesday at the family home at Halsey following a long illness. Funeral services are to be held Friday at 10 a.m., from the Halsey Methodist church, with the Fisher funeral home in charge. Burial will be in the Shedd cemetery. Rev. O. L. Covault will have charge of the services.

     Mr. Wells was born, Jan. 6, 1859 at Hubbard, Or. As a child he lived at Buena Vista and later at Dallas, while he was sheriff of Polk county from 1890 to 1894 and Polk county judge from 1896 to 1900. He had made his home at Halsey since 1903. Four of his sons and daughters are teachers. One daughter, Goldie Ruth Wells, is a missionary to South Africa.

     On Dec. 3, 1887 he married Sarah Frances Murphy at Independence. She died in 1931. He married Winifred Snyder, Nov. 3, 1932 at Halsey, she survives.

     The following children also survive: Leroy Wells, Halsey; Elbert G. Wells, Mexicali, Mexico; Goldie Ruth Wells, Eugene; Gladys Helseth, Ontario; W. Lawrence Wells, Porterville, Cal; and Genevieve Kendall, Paso Robles, Cal., also a brother, John Wells, Portland. Mrs. Roy Hedlund, Brownsville and Earl Snyder, Sweet Home are stepchildren. Fourteen grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren also survive as do a number of nieces and nephews.

     Mr. Wells had been a member of the Methodist church since early childhood."1

     Gladys Leona Helseth died on 19 January 19804 and was buried in City View Cemetery, Salem, Marion County, Oregon.4

     Goldie Ruth Wells was born on 6 August 1893, daughter of William Lawson Wells and Sarah Frances Murphy, in Dallas, Polk County, Oregon.1,2

     On 29 January 1924, she applied for a passport stating she had resided outside the United States from 19 May 1920 to Jan 1923 in Mondombe, Africa, but states her permanent residence is Halsey, Oregon where she is a missionary. Her last passport was issued on 19 Sep 1919 and proposes to go abroad temporarily, returning within four months. She will be performing missionary work in Belgian with transit through England, France and Belgium leaving from the port of New York aboard the Zeeland on 22 Mar 1924.2

     He was also known as James F.2

     On 14 April 1900, George A Wells, in his will of this date, named his son, George A. Wells Jr as executor. He named his wife, Henretta L. Wells and his children: sons: R. F. Wells; William L. Wells; Commodore P. Wells; George A. Wells Jr; and John E. Wells; daughters: Mary S. Bevens; Sarah E. Collins; and Emma J. Ground.4

     John, 25, married Luetta Pearl Simmon on 1 January 1905.1

     On 20 August 1938, the obituary of Richard Franklin Wells was published:
     R.F. Wells Passes In San Francisco
     R. F. Wells, 87, formerly of the Buena Vista District near Independence, died Friday in a San Francisco hospital. The funeral was to be held today in that city, and burial will be Monday afternoon in the Buena Vista cemetery with Independence Odd Fellos in charge.

     He leaves a widow, Hattie Wells of San Francisco; two sons, Frank Wells of Glendale, Calif., and Fred A. Wells of Salem; a daughter, Mabel Willet of Oakland, Calif., and three brothers, J. E. Wells of Portland and W. L. Wells of Halsey and C. P. Wells of Salem."5

     Richard Franklin Wells was born on 19 November 1851, son of George Andrew Wells and Henrietta Louisa Turner, in Pleasant Hill, Pike County, Illinois.4,3

     Richard, 21, married Emily Arathusa Collins, 22, on 19 October 1873 in Polk County, Oregon.2

     Richard, 36, married Harriet E. Claggett, 21, on 17 October 1888.2

     On 14 April 1900, George A Wells, in his will of this date, named his son, George A. Wells Jr as executor. He named his wife, Henretta L. Wells and his children: sons: R. F. Wells; William L. Wells; Commodore P. Wells; George A. Wells Jr; and John E. Wells; daughters: Mary S. Bevens; Sarah E. Collins; and Emma J. Ground.1 Richard Franklin Wells witnessed the marriage of his daughter, William Frederick Willet and Mabel Emily Wells on 14 April 1904 at Modesto, Stanislaus County, California.5,6

     On 31 January 1918, he applied for a passport in San Francisco County, California on which he said his occupation was real estate and that he was going to Panama on business leaving from the port of New Orleans on board United Fruit Company Steamship.3

     Richard Franklin Wells died on 17 August 1938 at age 862 and was buried in Buena Vista Cemetery, Buena Vista, Polk County, Oregon.2

     On 20 August 1938, the obituary of Richard Franklin Wells was published:
     R.F. Wells Passes In San Francisco
     R. F. Wells, 87, formerly of the Buena Vista District near Independence, died Friday in a San Francisco hospital. The funeral was to be held today in that city, and burial will be Monday afternoon in the Buena Vista cemetery with Independence Odd Fellos in charge.

     He leaves a widow, Hattie Wells of San Francisco; two sons, Frank Wells of Glendale, Calif., and Fred A. Wells of Salem; a daughter, Mabel Willet of Oakland, Calif., and three brothers, J. E. Wells of Portland and W. L. Wells of Halsey and C. P. Wells of Salem."5

     The Selective Training and Service Act of 1940, also known as the Burke–Wadsworth Act, enacted September 16, 1940, was the first peacetime conscription in United States history. The Selective Service Act required that men who had reached their 21st birthday but had not yet reached their 36th birthday register with local draft boards. Later, when the U.S. entered World War II after Pearl Harbor, all men from their 18th birthday until the day before their 45th birthday were made subject to military service, and all men from their 18th birthday until the day before their 65th birthday were required to register.2

     Richard Franklin Wells died on 14 February 1980 at age 97 in Los Angeles County, California,3 and was buried in Inglewood Park Cemetery, Inglewood, Los Angeles County, California.6

     William Lawrence Wells was born on 7 February 1904, son of William Lawson Wells and Sarah Frances Murphy, in Halsey, Linn County, Oregon.1

     William, 23, married Gracia Thornton, 23, on 23 August 1927 in Lane County, Oregon.3

     William registered for the draft on 16 February 1942 at Everett, Snohomish County, Washington. He was 38 years of age and employed by the Central Christian Church in Everett. He is described as 6' in heights, 160 pounds with blue eyes, brown hair and a light complexion.

     Former Polk County Judge, Sheriff Dies
     William Lawson Wells, 90, native of Oregon, died Tuesday at the family home at Halsey following a long illness. Funeral services are to be held Friday at 10 a.m., from the Halsey Methodist church, with the Fisher funeral home in charge. Burial will be in the Shedd cemetery. Rev. O. L. Covault will have charge of the services.

     Mr. Wells was born, Jan. 6, 1859 at Hubbard, Or. As a child he lived at Buena Vista and later at Dallas, while he was sheriff of Polk county from 1890 to 1894 and Polk county judge from 1896 to 1900. He had made his home at Halsey since 1903. Four of his sons and daughters are teachers. One daughter, Goldie Ruth Wells, is a missionary to South Africa.

     On Dec. 3, 1887 he married Sarah Frances Murphy at Independence. She died in 1931. He married Winifred Snyder, Nov. 3, 1932 at Halsey, she survives.

     The following children also survive: Leroy Wells, Halsey; Elbert G. Wells, Mexicali, Mexico; Goldie Ruth Wells, Eugene; Gladys Helseth, Ontario; W. Lawrence Wells, Porterville, Cal; and Genevieve Kendall, Paso Robles, Cal., also a brother, John Wells, Portland. Mrs. Roy Hedlund, Brownsville and Earl Snyder, Sweet Home are stepchildren. Fourteen grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren also survive as do a number of nieces and nephews.

     Mr. Wells had been a member of the Methodist church since early childhood."4

     William Lawrence Wells died on 26 June 1977 at age 73 in Los Angeles County, California,5,6 and was buried in Live Oak Memorial Park, Monrovia, Los Angeles County, California.5

     William Lawson Wells was born on 6 January 1859, son of George Andrew Wells and Henrietta Louisa Turner, in Hubbard, Marion County, Oregon.4,2

     William, 28, married Sarah Frances Murphy, 22, on 3 December 1887 in Polk County, Oregon.5

     On 14 April 1900, George A Wells, in his will of this date, named his son, George A. Wells Jr as executor. He named his wife, Henretta L. Wells and his children: sons: R. F. Wells; William L. Wells; Commodore P. Wells; George A. Wells Jr; and John E. Wells; daughters: Mary S. Bevens; Sarah E. Collins; and Emma J. Ground.1

     William Lawson Wells and Winifred Viola Snyder obtained a marriage license on 2 November 1932 in Linn County, Oregon.6

     On 20 August 1938, the obituary of Richard Franklin Wells was published:
     R.F. Wells Passes In San Francisco
     R. F. Wells, 87, formerly of the Buena Vista District near Independence, died Friday in a San Francisco hospital. The funeral was to be held today in that city, and burial will be Monday afternoon in the Buena Vista cemetery with Independence Odd Fellos in charge.

     He leaves a widow, Hattie Wells of San Francisco; two sons, Frank Wells of Glendale, Calif., and Fred A. Wells of Salem; a daughter, Mabel Willet of Oakland, Calif., and three brothers, J. E. Wells of Portland and W. L. Wells of Halsey and C. P. Wells of Salem."7

     William Lawson Wells died on 15 February 1949 at age 90 in Halsey, Linn County, Oregon,2 and was buried in Shedd Cemetery, Shedd, Linn County, Oregon.2

     George Post Wheeler was born on 6 August 1869 in Oswego, Oswego County, New York. He stated on his passport application that his father was a naturalized citizen.2

     George Post Wheeler, 37, married Hallie Ermine Rives, 32, daughter of Stephen Turner Rives Jr and Mary H. Ragsdale, on 29 December 1906.3

     On 31 December 1909, he applied to the American Embassy at Tokyo, Japan for a passport for himself and his wife, Hallie E. R. Wheeler, for travel in Russia. He stated that his permanent resident was at Ellensburg, Washington and that he left the United States in August 1908 and is temporarily living in Tokyo.

     He is described as being 40 years of age, 5' 9" in height, with blue eyes, a mustache, brown beard and fair complexion.4

     On 19 December 1917, Post and Hallie arrived in San Francisco on the S. S. Shinyo Maru from Yokohama, Japan. He is apparently working for the State Department.5

     He was a United States diplomat, serving as United States Minister to Paraguay from 1929-1933 and United States Minister to Albania from 1933 to 1934.6

     George Post Wheeler died on 23 December 1956 at age 87 in Neptune Township, Monmouth County, New Jersey,6 and was buried in Riverside Cemetery, Hopkinsville, Christian County, Kentucky.6

     Joseph Wheeler was born in 1720 in Northampton County, Pennsylvania Colony.2

     Joseph Wheeler married Maria Holmes in 1737 in Pennsylvania Colony. I cannot find a marriage record for them as of 21 Dec 2020.3,4,2

     On 1 September 1763, a petition was sent before the Colonial Government by the inhabitants of Lower Smithfield:
     "We, the within subscribers, inhabitants residing upon the frontiers of the Province of Pennsylvania, in the County of Northampton, do, from divers reasons, reports, and information, and from different accounts we have from the Ohio that the savages are committing their cruel barbarities, we have the greatest reason in life to expect those savage Indians will extend their cruel barbarities as far as our places. As we are in no order of defence, the lie entirely open to the mercy of those barbarous savage Indians, who delight in the shedding of innocent blood, and for the defence of any attempts which might be made of the like, a number of us have formed and enjoined ourselves under articles in an associated, independent company, as loyal subjects to our king and country, ready and willing to defend whatever attempts those barbarians might make upon our settlements; for which we have, thirty of us, unanimously chosen Mr. John Vancampen as captain, Mr. Joseph Wheeler lieutenant, and Cornelius Vancampen ensign. And you humble petitions pray your Honor will be pleased to grant us your assistance in carrying out so loyal a design. and your petitioners will ever pray." (Signed by thirty men.)5

     According to his source, he fought as a Lt. in the French & Indian War.4

     He was a Lieutenant of the Pennsylvania Line in the Revolutionary War who moved from the vicinity of Philadelphia to Sumner County, Tennessee.6

     He performed his Military Service by serving as a Corporal in "Invalid Regiment" of Pennsylvania, commanded by Colonel Lewis Nichola, and was was discharged April 1783.7

     Joseph Wheeler died in 1797 in Northumberland County, Pennsylvania.2
