The Family of James Turner (1766-1824)

Hannah Turner was the sister of James Turner (1766-1824) who became the governor of North Carolina in 1802 and left office in 1805. He is said to have been the son of Thomas Turner, born c1719 in Isle of Wight County, Virginia Colony, and Rebecca (--?--). Thomas Turner is said to have been the son of James Turner and Ann Jarrell who lived in Isle of Wight, but whose decendants eventually moved into early Edgecombe County, North Carolina, Halifax County, North Carolina and Northampton County, North Carolina.

Another sister of this James Turner was Mary Mayfield and two brothers who never married, John Turner and Jacob Turner.

Thomas Turner settled in Southampton County, Virginia and moved to Warren County, North Carolina after his children were born. Governor Turner is always stated to have been born in Southampton County.2
Hannah Turner was born before 1755.3

Hannah married Peter Davis. I cannot find a marriage record as of 26 Feb 2021.1

Hannah Turner left a will dated on 24 June 1819 in Warren County, North Carolina.

Henly Turner

Hannah Turner Davis, widow of Peter Davis, d.1804, was the sister of Gov. James Turner. It is believed, based on DNA, that James Turner is related in some way to Terisha Turner which might explain why Stephen and Henley Turner, Terisha's sons, would witness her will.4,5

Hannah Turner died before February 1826 in Warren County, North Carolina.
Find A Grave does not have a burial listing for her as of 6 Jan 2021.4

Her estate was probated in Warren County, North Carolina. Warren County, February Court 1826
This last will and testament of Hannah Davis dec'd, was duly proved in open court by the oaths of Stephen Turner and Henly Turner subscribing witnesses thereto and on motion it is ordered to be recorded.
