In the November 1859 Term of Court at Warren County, as a result of a petition by the heirs of Jacob Davis, his slaves were ordered to be divided into six shares between Mrs. Rhoda Davis; John H. Terisha Johnson was born circa 1760 in Virginia Colony.3
He was also known as Terry.
Terisha began military service in 1781 when he was drafted as a private into the Virginia Militia for the battle of Guilford Courthouse where he was injured.4
Terisha and Susannah Turner obtained a marriage bond on 23 December 1790 at Warren County, North Carolina, from M. D. Johnson, Clerk of Court.5,6
Terisha married Susannah Turner, 17, daughter of Stephen Turner and Susannah Hamner, on 23 December 1790 at Warren County, North Carolina.6
It is a pity that John Johnson's will, written 1 Oct 1793 and probated on 9 Dec 1793 does not specifically name his "six" sons (other than Michael) because he could be the father of Terisha Johnson.
The other likely candidate for his father is Johnson Johnson (see further down this page.)7
On 17 March 1796, John Johnson of Granville County, North Carolina conveyed to Terisha Johnson of Mecklenburg County, Virginia ... £20 current money of Virginia...56 and 2/3 acres...bounded by Stephen Johnson and Professor Sommerville... Signed by: John Johnson and Martha (her mark) Johnson Witnesses: John Carter, John Newton, Joshua Stephens. Recorded 8 Aug 1796 at Mecklenburg County, Virginia.8
On 13 January 1798, Stephen Johnson of Chatham County, North Carolina conveyed to Henry Henderson and Claiborn Tucker of Mecklenburg County, Virginia ... £83 Virginia money (for land) .. On the waters of Nutbush Creek...bounded by a stake on the county line, Thomas Carter, John Johnson, Terisha Johnson... Signed by: Stephen (his mark) Johnson Witnesses: Terisha Johnson, John Johnson, Terisha Turner, William Taylor, M Alexander at Mecklenburg County, Virginia.
These lands were first owned by Johnson Johnson which were sold to him by John Robinson, father of General James Randolph Robertson. I would appear that John Johnson, Terisha Johnson and Stephen Johnson might be selling off their father's lands on Nutbush creek which John Johnson bought from John Robinison. If this be the case, then Terisha Johnson's father would be Johnson Johnson??9
On 21 October 1808, Terisha Johnson, father of the bride, witnessed the marriage bond of James Douglass and Nancy Johnson at Mecklenburg County, Virginia, with Terasha Johnson as security.10,11
On 9 January 1818, he was one of the inspectors of tobacco at Haskins' Warehouse at Mecklenburg County, Virginia.12
In December 1818, Frederick and Elizabeth D. Hamme sold for a dollar to, among others, Terrisha Johnson, one acre on which a Methodist meeting-house was to be built at Mecklenburg County, Virginia.13
On 16 August 1832, he filed a declaration in Henderson County, Tennessee, Court with respect to acquiring a pension for his service in the Revolutionary War under the Act of Congress of 1832. He stated he was 70 years of age, was drafted in 1781 for one month as a private serving under Lt. Joshua Davis, Capt. Brown, Col. Mumford, and General Nathaniel Green. He was he was engaged in the Battle of Guilford Court House in which he was wounded in his right leg. After receiving the wound he was permitted either to repair to the Hospital or go home. He preferred the latter and returned home. He marched from Mecklenburg County into North Carolina and joined the American Army just before its arrival at Guilford Court House.
He was residing in Mecklenburg City, Virginia when he entered the service. His statement was supported only by tradition. A minister and other supported his claim. The Court stated "they have every confidence in the medical and surgical abilities of the doctor who examined Terisha.
His claim was rejected, despite having been properly filed and sworn to, with reference to a letter which I could not find in the file.4
On 16 August 1832, Terisha Johnson applied for a Revolutionary War pension in which he is identified as about 70 years old and living in Henderson County, Tennessee. He swore that he was entered service in 1781 at Guilford Courthouse as a drafted militia private and served for one month, having been wounded in the right leg just above the ankle by a musket rifle ball in the battle of Guilford. After incurring this wound he was permitted either to repair to the hospital or go home and he preferred the latter. He reported he served under Colonel
Robert Mumford with his Captain being (--?--) Brown and his lieutenant was Joshua Davis. He also stated that the Regiment to which he belonged was from Mecklenburg County, Virginia where he states he was born and raised. He stated he was in no other battle other than Guilford Courthouse under General Nathaniel Greene. His unit marched from Mecklenburg County into South Carolina joining the American army before its arrival at Guilford Court House. He remembered the British were commanded by Lord Cornwallis and Col. Tarleton with the Americans retiring from the field, but with the British having lost the greatest number of men. He stated he has not been on the Pension Roll in any state up to this point. But, he also declared that he has no documentary evidence and that he knows of no person whose testimony he can procure who can testify to his service. Signed with his mark.
Rev. John McCauley, Minister of the Gospel in Tennessee and William ? Burton, Chairman of the Court of Pleas and Quarter sessions in and for Henderson County certify that they were acquainted with Terisha Johnson who has subscribed and sworn to the above statement. They believed him to be of the age of 70 and of his mlitia service during the Revolution.
John A. Wilson, Practitioner of Medicine certified that he had examined Terisha Johnson and find him wounded ? in Achilles just above its insertion.
His request was rejected by letter dated 21 Sep 1832 which is not contained in the file. Apparently, some fact, unnamed, was defective as to form or authentication within his document file. at Henderson County, Tennessee.4,14
Terisha Johnson died after 1840 in Henderson County, Tennessee. I've had no luck finding him in the 1850 census, nor can I find death/burial information for him as of 6 Jan 2021.15
He was also known as Terry.

William Johnson was born on 2 May 1820, son of Benjamin J. Johnson and Rebecca Turner, in Tennessee although his deposition states he was about 30, making him born c1819 which is what the 1860 census indicates.1,3,4
His surname also is spelled as Johnston.
William Johnson and Abigail C. Bradley obtained a marriage license on 14 April 1845 in Sumner County, Tennessee.5
William Johnson, 24, married Abigail C. Bradley, 22, on 17 April 1845 in Sumner County, Tennessee.
They had three children.6,7
On 6 April 1849, he testified regarding the guardianship and schooling of James A. Turner, son of James H. Turner and was said to be about 30 years of age.
He also testified during the two-year lawsuit: William Johnson testified to an encounter between himself, Jo. D. Turner and Mr. Simpson:"Jo D. Turner and myself were at the camp meeting at the Dry Fork. Mrs. Simpson invited us to go home with her to dinner. We went sometime after dinner. Jo D. were walking the floor and had or had John in his arms. Mrs. Simpson were sitting in the room. Jo D. had on a new pair pants with buttons on from the ankles near the knees. Mrs. Simpson took hold of one of the buttons and said she would cut one off or pull it off. Jo D. took hold of her "yeore" [no idea what this means] and shuck it and turned off. Mr. Simpson came out of the piaser [pisser?] & took Jo D. by the arm & pointed to the door. Jo D. asked him what he had done. Mr. Simpson said he did not want to have any words about it but if he did not get out, he would put him out. Mrs. Simpson spoke and said Mr. Simpson we always fooled & played in Mr. Turners life time & meant no harm. Mr. Simpson said, I don't know what you come for, for you was not wanted when you were fetched. Jo D. then got his horse and left. I then left the house until Mr. Bradley & Mr. McGlothlin had left. I then returned to the house & found Mr. Simpson & his wife quarreling about the way Mr. Simpson had treated her & Jo D. I cannot remember all that was said but what I do remember, I remember that Mrs. Simpson told Mr. Simpson that if he didn't mind how he talked & went on that she would not stay with him but would go back to the old place. Mr. Simpson told her that if she wanted to go she could go. Mrs. Simpson threw up some woman on the north side of the ridge to Mr. Simpson, he then threw up Mark Moore & Jo D. Turner to her. She then told him that she loved Mark Moores little finger better than she did his whole body, in run of the conversation Sanford Simpson, the son of Enoch Simpson, gave Martha Simpson the boy." He then stated his relationship: my mother and N. B. Turner were brother and sister; my father and Mrs. Simpson's father were brothers. "I am well acquainted with the parties the friendship were very good between the two Turner families and the children of N. B. Turner. Aunt Martha were all ways playful in the life time of James."1
William Johnson, 36, married Elizabeth Jane Dorris, 27, on 1 January 1857. She was a first cousin to Wiliam's first wife, Abigail C. Bradley.7
There were two more unnamed infants born to Elizabeth Jane and William between the child on the 1860 census and Matilda's birth.8
On 10 March 1868, In his will, Benjamin Johnson names his wife Phebe Jane (thereby eliminating the marriage to Elizabeth!); his eight children: A. N. Johnson; Wm Johnson; J. M. Johnson; Mary Bradley; Franklin Johnson; Susan Garrison; John Johnson; and S. J. Johnson. He named J. C. Buntin executor.2
