Title

Nellie and her sisters, Iva and Jeff, were responsible for compiling research notes and photocopies of original documents, as well as original documents, about the Turner family which were given to Stephen Kent Turner who shared with me. It was Iva who started the research which was picked up by Nellie and Jeff who passed on the material. I've named it the Nellie Bowman Bausell Collection.
Nellie G. Bowman was born on 2 November 1911, daughter of Isaac Pierce Bowman and Bessie Lenora Turner, in Virginia.1,2

Nellie G. Bowman, 28, married Rufus G. Bausell, 27 on 13 January 1940 in St. Mary's Catholic Church, Wytheville, Wythe County, Virginia.3

      (an unknown value.)4

Nellie G. Bausell died on 2 February 2007 at age 953 and was buried in Russell Memorial Cemetery, Lebanon, Russell County, Virginia.
"We are sadden to hear of the death of one of our oldest members, Nellie Bausell. Nellie has donated many DAR magazines and other genealogy related materials for the library.

Nellie Bausell, Educator and Author, wife of Rufus B. Bausell and daughter of Isaac Pierce and Bessie Turner Bowman, died Friday, at the age of 95 following a brief illness. Mrs. Bausell attended high school in Wytheville, received her baccalaureate degree from Radford University, a Masters Degree from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University and a Masters plus 30 credit certification as a Reading Specialist from the University of Delaware, where she was awarded the College of Education's first Most Outstanding Alumni Award in 1981. She taught in the public schools for a total of 46 years, 24 years in Virginia and 22 years in Delaware, where she also served as a reading supervisor. Upon her retirement she established a tutoring business in Harrington, Delaware and co-authored three educational books designed to help parents prepare their children for school. Upon her return to Wytheville in 1983 she engaged in volunteer work involving teaching and was a member of ten genealogical organizations. In recognition of her service and long membership dating back to 1926, the Wytheville Baptist Church established the Nellie B. Bausell Memorial Library for use by its children and adult members. Mrs. Bausell is survived by her son and daughter-in- law, Rufus Barker Bausell, Jr. and Carole Vinograd Bausell; two grandchildren, Jesse Turner Bausell and Rebecca Barker Bausell; and two sisters and an brother-in-law, Jefferson Bowman and Betty Inman and Arthur Inman. In lieu of flowers her family asks that donations be sent to the Wilderness Road Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution Scholarship Fund, 680 S. 9th street, Wytheville, VA 24382. She touched many lives through her teaching, kindness and generosity. She will be greatly missed by her family and many friends. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 6, 2007 at 10 a.m. at the Barnett Funeral Chapel with Reverend Clarence Marshall and Pastor Rusty Mullins officiating. A graveside service will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the Russell Memorial Cemetery in Lebanon, VA. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday. Barnett Funeral Home, Wytheville, VA is in charge of arrangements."3,5
