     Jemima's surname also is spelled as Deahl.2      Jemima Deal was born on 9 March 1838 in Northampton County, Pennsylvania.3

     Jemima Deal, 21, married George Washington Rives, 22, son of James L. Rives and Elizabeth Hood, on 27 January 1860 in Greene County, Illinois.1,2

     Jemima Rives died on 12 September 1912 at age 74 in Barr, Macoupin County,3 and was buried in Asbury Cemetery, Barr, Macoupin County, Illinois. "Argus, Sept. 13, 1912 .
Mrs. Geo. W. RIVES, one of the old time residents of the Barr vicinity, died quite suddenly at 7:30 a.m. September 10, from a stroke of paralysis. Her maiden name was Jemima DEAL, she having been born March 9, 1838, in North Hampton county, Pennsylvania. She was united in marriage to Geo. W. RIVES January 26, 1860, the fruits of the union being ten children; Charles P., of Bunker Hill, Ill; William H., deceased; James L., of Paris, Mo; Augustus M., of Shipman, Ill; George E., of Rock-bridge, Ill; Leonora Estel?a at home; John E., Harry E., Everett A. and Stephen C., all of the Barr neighborhood. Besides eleven grandchildren and two great grandchildren she leaves two sisters and four brothers, namely: Mrs. Mary E. HINCKLE, of Palmyra, Ill; Mrs. Lucy HINTON, of Morrisonville, Ill; George DEAL, of Riverton, Ill; David DEAL, of Zenobia, Ill., and Rev. Francis DEAL of Los Angeles, Cal. She was converted in the year 1865 and united with the M.E. church at Asbury, where she continued her membership until she was called from earth. She was a kind and devoted mother, a loving and faithful wife and a good neighbor and will be greatly missed by those who knew her. Funeral services were conducted at the Asbury church, September 12, at 11 a.m. The interment was in the adjoining cemetery."3

     William Marshall Rives was born on 12 December 1841, son of Henry Archer Rives and Eleanor P. Tillottson.3

     He performed his Military Service during the Civil War in Company L 14th Tennessee Infantry, Confederate States of America and "served until captured early in 1863 near Somerset, Kentucky. He had just joined Morgan and while out with a skirmishing party alighted from his horse, slipped the bridle over his arm, and stooped down to drink from a spring. The horse heard other horses approaching, jerked loose and escaped. Young Rives sought a hiding place behind a log was was detected in his place of concealment.".3,4

     William Marshall Rives died of pneumonia as a prisoner of war on 10 November 1863 at age 21 in Point Lookout, St. Mary's County, Maryland,3 and was buried in Rosedale Cemetery, Pembroke, Christian County, Kentucky. "His father spent more than a thousand dollars to have his body brought back to his home. This took more than a year after the close of the war. Some time after that a comrade, who had found Billy's diary, sent it to his mother and father."

     He was originally buried in the Rives Family Cemetery on the Fort Campbell Military Reservation.3
