Jefferson, 28, married Florence Belle Bryant, 23, on 16 December 1901 in Amherst County, Virginia.5

Jefferson registered for the draft on 12 September 1918 at Amherst County, Virginia. He was 45 years of age and a Farmer. He is described as of medium height and build with blue eyes and light hair.

With no end in sight for the end of World War I, a third and final registration law was instituted which now included all men between the ages of 18 and 45 which added younger men that the previous registrations laws and an older group of men born between 1873 and 1900, meaning he had to register.4
