Percy Everett Davis was born on 17 July 1893, son of James E. Davis and Margaret Turner, in Monmouth, Polk County, Oregon.3,4
He also is reported to have been born in July 1894 in Oregon.1

Percy registered for the draft on 28 May 1917 at Linn County, Oregon. He was 23 years of age, a Farmer employed by J. O. Brown, single and had been a corporal in Oregon College. He reports being the support of his father and is described as being of medium height, medium weight with blue eyes and dark brown hair.

Due to a need for men to serve during World War I, the United States instituted a draft. Obviously, not everyone who was registered for the draft was drafted or served in the military.

The first registration was for men between the ages of 21 and 31 (men born between 5 Jun 1886 and 5 Jun 1896), meaning he had to register.4

On 15 September 1918, Percy sailed on the Pocahontas from Hoboken, New Jersey, as a Private in the U. S. Army Detachment Agriculturist, Camp Meigs. His service no. was 3422862.5

Percy was a Railroad S. P. at the time of his marriage.6

Percy Everett Davis, 31, married Irene M. McDaniel on 29 June 1925 in Vancouver, Clarke County, Washington.6

Percy registered for the draft on 25 April 1942. He was 48 years of age and employed by the Preston School of Industry in Waterman, Amador County, California. He is 5' 9 1/2" in height, 195 pounds with blue eyes, gray hair and a light complexion. He had an appendectomy scar.

The Selective Training and Service Act of 1940, also known as the Burke–Wadsworth Act, enacted September 16, 1940, was the first peacetime conscription in United States history. The Selective Service Act required that men who had reached their 21st birthday but had not yet reached their 36th birthday register with local draft boards. Later, when the U.S. entered World War II after Pearl Harbor, all men from their 18th birthday until the day before their 45th birthday were made subject to military service, and all men from their 18th birthday until the day before their 65th birthday were required to register.3

There was another Percy E. (Erskine) Davis, who was born 4 May 1890 and died 28 Nov 1957 in Oregon. He married Bertha Ellis in Kansas where he was enumerated in 1930. This man should not be confused as I originally did with Percy E. (Everett) Davis.
