     John Joseph Foucher was born in 1820, son of Antoine Foucher Jr and Mellicent Saulet, in Orleans Parish, Louisiana. Both of his parents were born in France.1

     John married Mary Alice Wood, 33, daughter of Sumpter Turner and Elizabeth Baldwin, on 16 October 1872 in New York, New York County, New York, with the Rev. Hugh Miller Thompson officiating.
     The actual marriage record states that the marriage was celebrated in New York City on 17 Oct 1872 between John Joseph Foucher, age 52 years, a native of New Orleans son of Antoine Foucher and Mellicent Saulet and Miss Mary Alice Wood, age 33, a native of New Orleans, daughter of S Turner and Elizabeth Baldwin. New York recorded the marriage on 17 Oct 1782 sending the record to Orleans Parish, Louisiana, where it was incorporated into the archives.1

     John Joseph Foucher died on 3 August 1897 in Orleans Parish, Louisiana. He is said to have been 76 years of age at death.2

     He may be the son of Antoine Foucher, son of Pierre Foucher and Louise Metesser, both deceased, a native of Rochefort, Parish of La Rochelle, France, on the one part and Miss Marguerite Carriere, minor daughter of Sr. Joseph Carriere and Dame Marguerite Trepagnier, her parents stipulating for her. The contract is dated 8 Feb 1745.3
