Mary E. Pace was born circa 1850 in Tennessee.1

Her son's death records give his mother's name as Betty Pace - could she have been Mary Elizabeth, shortened to Betty? However, I cannot find a marriage record for this surname either.

Mary married Thomas Henry Turner, son of Henry H. Turner and Eleanor N. Mabry. I cannot find a marriage record in which I have confidence for them on either Ancestry of FamilySearch.

I have found a marriage license for a Thomas H. Turner and Mary E. Manly dated 16 Jan 1861 in Amherst County, Virginia. However, I found burial information which makes it clear the Thomas H. Turner who married Mary E. Manley was the son of Payton Turner.

Bottom line: I cannot find a marriage record for them as of 5 Jul 2021.1,2,3,4

Mary E. Turner died before 1877 when her husband seems to have remarried.5

Thomas Cletus Turner, 25, married Lela B. Stennett, 27, on 25 December 1906 in La Center, Ballard County, Kentucky.6

Thomas registered for the draft on 12 September 1918 at Ballard County, Kentucky. He was 37 years of age, married and a farmer. He is described as being tall, with a slender build, black eyes and black hair.

Due to a need for men to serve during World War I, the United States instituted a draft. Obviously, not everyone who was registered for the draft was drafted or served in the military.

With no end in sight for the end of World War I, a third and final registration law was instituted which now included all men between the ages of 18 and 45 which added younger men that the previous registrations laws and an older group of men born between 1873 and 1900, meaning he had to register.4

     After Lela's death in 1923, he married Flora N (--?--), probably c1927.7

Thomas Cletus Turner died on 6 January 1951 at age 691 and was buried in Wickliffe Cemetery, Wickliffe, Ballard County, Kentucky.1

P. was first listed as husband which was scratched out and Head written in. A son, Jewel R. Green is listed, age 19, but unless Ina was previously married that makes no sense.      Marvin James Turner was born on 24 May 1891, son of Thomas Henry Turner and Lucy Frances Alexander, in Slater, Ballard County, Kentucky.2,1,3 He was also known as James Marvin.3

Marvin married Mable E. Joyner in 1912 in Alexander County, iIllinois.4

Marvin James Turner registered for the draft on 4 June 1917 at Ballard County, Kentucky. He was 26 years of age, married with two children and a Farmer. He is described as tall, with a slender build, brown eyes and dark brown hair.

Due to a need for men to serve during World War I, the United States instituted a draft. Obviously, not everyone who was registered for the draft was drafted or served in the military.

The first registration was for men between the ages of 21 and 31 (men born between 5 Jun 1886 and 5 Jun 1896), meaning he had to register.1

James Martin Turner registered for the draft on 27 April 1942 at Jackson, Jackson County, Michigan. He was 50 years of age and was employed by the Jackson Bumper Division. He is described as being 6' 2" in height, 185 pounds, with brown eyes, brown hair and a light complexion.

The Selective Training and Service Act of 1940, also known as the Burke–Wadsworth Act, enacted September 16, 1940, was the first peacetime conscription in United States history. The Selective Service Act required that men who had reached their 21st birthday but had not yet reached their 36th birthday register with local draft boards. Later, when the U.S. entered World War II after Pearl Harbor, all men from their 18th birthday until the day before their 45th birthday were made subject to military service, and all men from their 18th birthday until the day before their 65th birthday were required to register.3

James Marvin Turner died on 30 October 1970 at age 79 in San Bernardino, San Bernardino County, California,5 and was buried in Mountain View Cemetery, San Bernardino, San Bernardino County, California.5
