     Robert Price Turner Jr was born on 8 November 1906, son of Robert Price Turner and Betty Lee Wingfield, in Amherst County, Virginia.1,3,2

     Robert registered for the draft on 16 October 1940 at Lynchburg, (Independent City), Virginia. He was 33 years of age and worked for the Mead Corporation, John H Heald Division in Lynchburg. He is described as being 5' 7 1/2" tall, 198 pounds with brown eyes, brown hair and a dark complexion.

     The Selective Training and Service Act of 1940, also known as the Burke–Wadsworth Act, enacted September 16, 1940, was the first peacetime conscription in United States history. The Selective Service Act required that men who had reached their 21st birthday but had not yet reached their 36th birthday register with local draft boards. Later, when the U.S. entered World War II after Pearl Harbor, all men from their 18th birthday until the day before their 45th birthday were made subject to military service, and all men from their 18th birthday until the day before their 65th birthday were required to register.2

     Walter married Rose Ann Grief circa 1906. I have not been able to find a marriage record for them on Ancestry or FamilySearch as of 19 Mar 2021.4

     "Mrs. Mattie Turner, 87, Dies at Kevil

     "Mrs. Mattie Turner, 87, died Wednesday afternoon at the home of her daughter. Mrs. R. A. Upshaw, of Kevil. She was found dead in her bed by her daughter. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon of last week at 3 o'clock at Mt. Pleasant church, with the Rev. marvin E. Hines, pastor of Kevil Baptist church, conducting the rites. Burial was in the church cemetery."

     "Besides her daughter, she is survived by six sons, Cecil Turner, Jackson, Mich; Walter Turner, Paducah; Charlie Turner, Lovelaceville; Hubert Turner, Bandana; Earl Turner, Wickliffe; Dalzell Turner, Cairo, Ill; two sisters: Miss Eva Wyatt, Kevil; Mrs.H.      Charles Allen Turner was born on 19 September 1885, son of Gus Walter Turner and Mattie Isabelle Wyatt, in Kentucky.1,2 He was also known as Charley.1,2

     Charley, 23, married Mattie Lillian Jones, 15, on 22 July 1909 in McCracken County, Kentucky.3

     Charles Allen Turner registered for the draft on 12 September 1918 at Wickcliffe, Ballard County, Kentucky. He was 32 years of age and married. He is described as Tall, Slender with dark eyes and dark hair with an enlarged ankle.

     Due to a need for men to serve during World War I, the United States instituted a draft. Obviously, not everyone who was registered for the draft was drafted or served in the military.

     With no end in sight for the end of World War I, a third and final registration law was instituted which now included all men between the ages of 18 and 45 which added younger men that the previous registrations laws and an older group of men born between 1873 and 1900, meaning he had to register.2

     Hubert Leslie Turner was born on 2 July 1890, son of Gus Walter Turner and Mattie Isabelle Wyatt, in Ingleside, Ballard County, Kentucky.2,3,1

     Hubert registered for the draft on 5 June 1917 at Ballard County, Kentucky. He was 26 years of age, single, a farmer, and is described as Tall, Medium build with grey eyes and dark hair.

     Due to a need for men to serve during World War I, the United States instituted a draft. Obviously, not everyone who was registered for the draft was drafted or served in the military.

     The first registration was for men between the ages of 21 and 31 (men born between 5 Jun 1886 and 5 Jun 1896), meaning he had to register.3

     Hubert married Willie A. Colvin circa 1919. I have been unable to find a marriage record anywhere as of 19 Mar 2021.4

     In 1935, he was living in Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan.5

     Hubert was a Laborer who has been married before according to his marriage license with Avery Casey.6

     Hubert Leslie Turner and Avery Casey obtained a marriage license on 19 December 1936 in Wayne County, Michigan.6

     Hubert, 46, married Avery Casey on 24 December 1936 in Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan.6

     He registered for the draft on 27 April 1942 at Ballard County, Kentucky. He was 51 years of age and married. He is described as being 5' 11" in height, 165 pounds, with gray eyes, black/gray hair and a light complexion.

     Earl Lenard Turner was born in September 1892, son of Gus Walter Turner and Mattie Isabelle Wyatt, in Kentucky.1
     Earl Lenard also is reported to have been born on 25 March 1892 in Ballard County, Kentucky.2

     Earl and Pearl Scott obtained a marriage license in February 1915 in Ballard County, Kentucky.3

     "Mrs. Mattie Turner, 87, Dies at Kevil

     "Mrs. Mattie Turner, 87, died Wednesday afternoon at the home of her daughter. Mrs. R. A. Upshaw, of Kevil. She was found dead in her bed by her daughter. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon of last week at 3 o'clock at Mt. Pleasant church, with the Rev. marvin E. Hines, pastor of Kevil Baptist church, conducting the rites. Burial was in the church cemetery."

     "Besides her daughter, she is survived by six sons, Cecil Turner, Jackson, Mich; Walter Turner, Paducah; Charlie Turner, Lovelaceville; Hubert Turner, Bandana; Earl Turner, Wickliffe; Dalzell Turner, Cairo, Ill; two sisters: Miss Eva Wyatt, Kevil; Mrs.H. H. Whipple, Bandana; a brothr, Ed Wyatt, of Kevil; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and several other relatives."4

     Earl Lenard Turner died of Coronary Thrombosis due to Cardiac Decompensation on 26 September 1955 in Lovelaceville, Ballard County, Kentucky,5 and was buried in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, La Center, Ballard County, Kentucky.2,6

     Frank Dalzell Turner was born on 29 September 1897, son of Gus Walter Turner and Mattie Isabelle Wyatt, in Ballard County, Kentucky.3,4 He was also known as Dalzell.5

     He registered for the draft on 16 February 1942 at Cairo, Alexander County, illinois. He was 44 years of age, single, and employed by Cairo Meal & Cake Company. He is described as 5' 8" in height, 155 pounds, with blue eyes, red hair a ruddy complexion and a scar on his left wrist.

     The Selective Training and Service Act of 1940, also known as the Burke–Wadsworth Act, enacted September 16, 1940, was the first peacetime conscription in United States history. The Selective Service Act required that men who had reached their 21st birthday but had not yet reached their 36th birthday register with local draft boards. Later, when the U.S. entered World War II after Pearl Harbor, all men from their 18th birthday until the day before their 45th birthday were made subject to military service, and all men from their 18th birthday until the day before their 65th birthday were required to register.4

     Eva Vories Turner was born on 15 September 1899, daughter of Gus Walter Turner and Mattie Isabelle Wyatt, in Kentucky.1,2 She was also known as Vories.3

     Vories married Robert Atkins Upshaw circa 1918. I have been unable to find a marriage record anywhere as of 19 Mar 2021.4

     On 26 April 1983, Robert Upshaw's obituary reads:
     "Robert A. (Rob) Upshaw, 84, died at 7:45 p.m. Monday at Western Baptist Hospital. He was a resident of Paducah Rt. 2, Kindred Avenue.

     A Ballard County native, he retired from Clark Equipment Co., in Jackson, Mich., in 1964. He was a member of Bethel Cumberland Presbyterian Church and a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. James Upshaw.

     Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Roth Funeral Home with the Rev. Vernon Murphy officiating. Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery in Ballard County.

     Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Eva Vories Upshaw; two daughters, Mrs. Myrtis Russell of Kevil and Mrs. Stella Mae Thompson of Muskegon. Mich; a brother, Lee Tom Upshaw of McCracken County; two sisters, Mrs. Carrie Biggs and Mrs. Nonnie Smith, both of Paducah; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

     A son, Dennis Upshaw, preceded him in death."
