     Robert Atkins Upshaw was born on 7 January 1899 in Kentucky. He was the son of James Hester Upshaw (1847-1921) and Addie L. Watwood Upshaw (1864-1956.)1,2

     Robert married Vories Turner, daughter of Gus Walter Turner and Mattie Isabelle Wyatt, circa 1918. I have been unable to find a marriage record anywhere as of 19 Mar 2021.1

     Robert Atkins Upshaw died on 25 April 1983 at age 84 in Paducah, McCracken County, Kentucky,2 and was buried in Bethel Cumberland Presbyterian Cemetery, Kevil, Ballard County, Kentucky.2

     On 26 April 1983, Robert Upshaw's obituary reads:
     "Robert A. (Rob) Upshaw, 84, died at 7:45 p.m. Monday at Western Baptist Hospital. He was a resident of Paducah Rt. 2, Kindred Avenue.

     A Ballard County native, he retired from Clark Equipment Co., in Jackson, Mich., in 1964. He was a member of Bethel Cumberland Presbyterian Church and a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. James Upshaw.

     Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Roth Funeral Home with the Rev. Vernon Murphy officiating. Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery in Ballard County.

     Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Eva Vories Upshaw; two daughters, Mrs. Myrtis Russell of Kevil and Mrs. Stella Mae Thompson of Muskegon. Mich; a brother, Lee Tom Upshaw of McCracken County; two sisters, Mrs. Carrie Biggs and Mrs. Nonnie Smith, both of Paducah; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

     A son, Dennis Upshaw, preceded him in death."

     Cecil married Annie Lee Philbrick in 1908. The marriage license annoucement spells her surname as Hutchison, but the 1900 census spells it Hutchinson.2,3

     "Mrs. Mattie Turner, 87, Dies at Kevil

     "Mrs. Mattie Turner, 87, died Wednesday afternoon at the home of her daughter. Mrs. R. A. Upshaw, of Kevil. She was found dead in her bed by her daughter. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon of last week at 3 o'clock at Mt. Pleasant church, with the Rev. marvin E. Hines, pastor of Kevil Baptist church, conducting the rites. Burial was in the church cemetery."

     "Besides her daughter, she is survived by six sons, Cecil Turner, Jackson, Mich; Walter Turner, Paducah; Charlie Turner, Lovelaceville; Hubert Turner, Bandana; Earl Turner, Wickliffe; Dalzell Turner, Cairo, Ill; two sisters: Miss Eva Wyatt, Kevil; Mrs.H. H. Whipple, Bandana; a brothr, Ed Wyatt, of Kevil; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and several other relatives."4

     On 10 March 1944, Annie Lee Turner's obituary states she was survived by her husband, Cecil Turner; two sons, Conrad and Richard Turner; a daughter Mrs. William Rudolph and two sisters.5

     Cecil R. Turner died in 19571 and was buried in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, La Center, Ballard County, Kentucky.1

     Annie Lee Hutchinson was born on 20 March 1885 in Kentucky. She was the daughter of Eli J. and Mary E. Shoemaker Hutchinson according to her death certificate.2,3

     She first married Claude M. Philbrick (1877-1948). I cannot find any sign of this marriage and her surname was listed as Hutchison when she married Cecil Turner.4

     Annie married Cecil R. Turner, son of Gus Walter Turner and Mattie Isabelle Wyatt, in 1908. The marriage license annoucement spells her surname as Hutchison, but the 1900 census spells it Hutchinson.5,6

     Annie Lee Turner died of left side hemiplegia hypertension with chronic arteriosclerotic myocarditis with a contributing factor of Parkinsonian syndrome on 5 March 1944 at age 58 in Jackson, Jackson County, Michigan,7,3 and was buried in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, La Center, Ballard County, Kentucky.4

     On 10 March 1944, Annie Lee Turner's obituary states she was survived by her husband, Cecil Turner; two sons, Conrad and Richard Turner; a daughter Mrs. William Rudolph and two sisters.8

     Rose Ann Grief was born on 4 June 1878 in McCracken County, Kentucky. She was the daughter of Jacob and Mary Grief, according to the 1880 census.2,3,4 She was also known as Rosa.2

     Rose married Walter Thomas Turner, son of Gus Walter Turner and Mattie Isabelle Wyatt, circa 1906. I have not been able to find a marriage record for them on Ancestry or FamilySearch as of 19 Mar 2021.2

     Rose Ann Turner died of Congestive Heart Failure on 15 July 1960 at age 82 in Paducah, McCracken County, Tennessee,5 and was buried in Oak Grove Cemetery, Paducah, McCracken County, Kentucky.6

     Stephen Pettus Read Jr was born on 5 July 1876, son of Stephen Pettus Read and Mary Wright, in Palmer Springs District, Mecklenburg County, Virginia.1,4

     Stephen and Sadie M. Hayes obtained a marriage license on 16 December 1902 in Warren County, North Carolina.5

     Stephen Pettus Read Jr, 26, married Sadie M. Hayes, 24, on 16 December 1902 in Warren County, North Carolina, with Charles F. Read, Methodist minister, officiating.5

     Stephen and Catherine Mayfield Robinson obtained a marriage license on 25 July 1914 in Warren County, North Carolina.6

     Stephen Pettus Read Jr, 38, married Catherine Mayfield Robinson, 27, on 28 July 1914 in Zion Methodist Episcopal Church, Warren County, North Carolina, with J. E. Holden, minister of the Methodist Episcopal Church, officiated.6

     Stephen registered for the draft on 12 September 1918 at Mecklenburg County, Virginia. He was 42 years of age and living in Palmer Springs where he was a farmer. He is described as Tall (maybe 6' 10"?), with a slender build, brown eyes and light hair.

     Due to a need for men to serve during World War I, the United States instituted a draft. Obviously, not everyone who was registered for the draft was drafted or served in the military.

     With no end in sight for the end of World War I, a third and final registration law was instituted which now included all men between the ages of 18 and 45 which added younger men that the previous registrations laws and an older group of men born between 1873 and 1900, meaning he had to register.7

     On 4 July 1938, Amasa P. Read's obituary states he died at the home of a daughter, Mrs. R. B. Robinson, near Littleton, where he had been for a year since his health failed. Survivors: his wife, Mrs. Lillian Ricks Read; two daughters, Mrs. Arrington Davis of Henderson and Mrs. R. B. Robinson of Littleton; three sons, S. T. Read, of Warrenton, F. A. Read of Wood, and J. L. Read of Palmer Springs; and two brothers, J. W. Read of Palmer Springs and S. P. Read of Norlina.8

     Stephen Pettus Read Jr died of Hypertensive heart disease and chronic nephritis due to Uremia on 7 February 1941 at age 64 in Smith Creek Township, Warren County, North Carolina,4 and was buried in Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery, Norlina, Warren County, North Carolina.4,9

     On 8 February 1941, Stephen Pettus Read's obituary states he was survived by his wife, Kate Robinson Read; two sons, G. H. Read of Norlina and W. C. Read of Richmond; three daughters: Mrs. L. W. Vick of Emporia, Va; Mrs. George Collins of Palmer Springs, and Miss Katherine Read of Norlina; and a brother, John Read.10

     Sadie and Stephen Pettus Read Jr obtained a marriage license on 16 December 1902 in Warren County, North Carolina.1

     Sadie M. Hayes, 24, married Stephen Pettus Read Jr, 26, son of Stephen Pettus Read and Mary Wright, on 16 December 1902 in Warren County, North Carolina, with Charles F. Read, Methodist minister, officiating.1

     Sadie M. Read died on 17 January 1907 at age 283,2 and was buried in Union Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery, Palmer Springs, Mecklenburg County, Virginia.2
