     Guthrie Mabrey Turner was born on 21 February 1895, son of James Crow Turner and Ida M. Sellars, in Kentucky.3,4

     He performed his Military Service by serving as a Corporal in Company D, 2nd Battalion, 22nd Engineers, during World War I.1

     Guthrie and Margaret L. Colvin obtained a marriage license on 15 March 1918 in Ballard County, Kentucky.5,6

     On 31 July 1918, he sailed from Hoboken New Jersey on the Siboney on a U. S. Army Transport Service Departing Passenger List.7

     Guthrie Mabrey Turner registered for the draft on 27 April 1942 at Wickliffe, Ballard County, Kentucky. He was 47 years of age and self-employed. He is described as being 5' 11" in height, 148 pounds with brown eyes, gray hair and a dark complexion.

     The Selective Training and Service Act of 1940, also known as the Burke–Wadsworth Act, enacted September 16, 1940, was the first peacetime conscription in United States history. The Selective Service Act required that men who had reached their 21st birthday but had not yet reached their 36th birthday register with local draft boards. Later, when the U.S. entered World War II after Pearl Harbor, all men from their 18th birthday until the day before their 45th birthday were made subject to military service, and all men from their 18th birthday until the day before their 65th birthday were required to register.1

     James C. Turner's obituary reads: Jim C. Turner, 82, Dies in Florida
     "Funeral services for Jim C. Turner, 82, native of Ballard county, who died at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Hiram Northington, Lincoln, Florida, will be held at the Mr. Pleasant Baptist church at 2 p.m. Friday. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

     Surivors other than Mrs. Northington are a son, Guthrie Turner, Bandana; a daughter, Mrs. Harper E. Titsworth, Bandana; a brother, Lynn Turner, Englewide."8

     Guthrie Mabrey Turner died on 5 April 1953 at age 58 in Veteran's Hospital, Marion, Wiliamson County, Illinois,4,9 and was buried in Maplelawn Park Cemetery, Paducah, McCracken County, Kentucky.4

     On 6 April 1953, Guthrie Turner's obituary stated he had been ill since Christmas, was a farmer, and a life-long resident of Ballard County. He was a veteran of World War I and a member of the American Legion.

     Survivors include: his widow, Mrs. Margaret Turner, one son, Robert C. Turner and three daughters: Mrs. Stewart Thurman of Marietta, Ga., Mrs. Carl Ligon of Lone Oak and Miss Joan Turner of Paducah; two sisters, Mrs. Harper Titsworth of Kevil and Mrs. Hiram Northingon of Lakeland, Florida; three grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.9

     Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Jones Funeral Home hee, with the Rev. Tony Stinnett officiating. Burial will be Mount Pleasant Cemetery.

     She is survived by a son, Dr. Louis Northington of Mayfield; a daughter, Mildred Harrison of La Center; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

     Hiram Winn Northington was born on 30 January 1887 in Ballard County, Kentucky. He was the son of Norfleet Carnie Northington (1845-1929) and Nannie L Winn Northington (1853-1940.)2,3

     Hiram and Lottie L. Turner obtained a marriage bond on 25 November 1911 in Ballard County, Kentucky.1

     Hiram Winn Northington, 24, married Lottie L. Turner, 15, daughter of James Crow Turner and Ida M. Sellars, on 26 November 1911 in Ogden, Ballard County, Kentucky.1

     Hiram Winn Northington died on 6 April 1975 at age 88 in Lakeland, Polk County, Florida,2,3 and was buried in Mount Pleasant Church Cemetery, La Center, Ballard County, Kentucky.3

     His obituary reads:
     "LA CENTER, Ky., April 8 - Hiram Northington, 88, a native of Ballard County, died at 5:30 a.m. Sunday at his home in Lakeland, Fla.

     Services will be conducted at Jones Funeral Home here at 2 p.m. Thursday by the Rev. David Gray. Burial will follow in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.

     Mr. Northington, a retired carpenter, had resided in Florida over 30 years. He was a member of Southside Baptist Church in Lakeland and was a member of North Ballard Masonic Lodge No. 537 F & AM.

     He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lottie Northington of Lakeland, a son, Dr. Louis Northington of Sedalia Rt. 1; a daughter, Mrs. William Harrison of La Center; a brother, Dick Northington of Bandana; a sister, Mrs. Aggie Penn of Ocala, Fla; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
