Richard W. Bradley was born on 16 December 1825. He was the son of Abram Bradley and Zilphia Dorris.1

Richard W. Bradley, 21, married Mary Jane Johnson, 19, daughter of Benjamin J. Johnson and Rebecca Turner, on 23 December 1846 in Sumner County, Tennessee. They had ten children.2

Between 1848 and 1849, he also testified during the two-year long Chancery Court lawsuit between Nelson B. Turner and Enoch Simpson, testifying about the incident reported by John T. Carter.

John T. Carter testified that he went with N. B. Turner to the north side of the ridge to Sanford Simpson to demand "John the ward & told Sanford that he thought as he were his guardian he had the right of selecting the place for the child to go to school at. Sanford told him that the boy should not go without the consent of his mother. Turner told Sanford he would take the boy to his mother he would go and see her about him. Sanford promised to send him back. Subsequently, Sanford stated the boy were brought there [to him] for his accommodation to go to school with his son. He further testified that the school house in is Trouts district, was very sorry and even the neighborhood is uniformed, quite dissipated, and that Sanford's children had very limited education. He stated the character of the schools is much better in N. B. Turner's neighborhood.

Richard Bradley testified about the above incident, telling it much the same way. After Jo D. Turner had left, he stated "Mrs. Simpson appeared to be vary much hurt and said she were sorry that he had treated the boy the way he had and said that Mr. Turner always had thought a great deal of the children & especially of Jo D."3
