James Lewis Turner was born on 28 October 1833, son of William Turner and Judith Chick, in Tennessee.1,4,5

"My Cousin found a note I believe that was wrote by my Great Aunt Willa Turner that states the names of her Grandparents and great grandparents and also says that James L. went back to visit his mother in Kentucky in 1879 and that she gave him $500 of the $2200 that she received of John's back pension from the Union army. James came back and built a barn that know stands on the old Fishback place and bought grandmother a new sewing machine ( I have this sewing machine I use it for a night stand next to my bed my father refinished it and I now have it.) (I doubt if James L. knew where this money came from)."7
